13yo earns an AVERAGE! £70 per hour in Brighton..busking!

By your own admission James Hetfield is a one trick pony?

When I say 'one trick pony' I mean that he may only know a couple of tunes.
I can well imagine if you stood in front of him for a few minutes you would hear the same tunes repeated.
On the busking scene you only need to know one tune to be successful.
Of course I could well be wrong about him but he is very good on that video.

I once had a lad at my studio (in t'80's) who was one of the best lead guitarists I'd heard.
He could shred for England but not could not do it on a backing track.
No matter how much tuition I gave him he could not play in key but take the music away and he was brilliant.
He ended up selling his gear.

I am absolutely wretched at improvising. I have tried playing to backing tracks but I get very frustrated. I think its important to learn or get used to improvising early on. I'm very tempted to start taking 'performance guitar' grades. Starting at grade 1.
