He was next to useless on the right of midfield most of the game last season. I rate him as a right back but Sagna blows him out of the water. DM i'm not so sure about, i'd certainly rather he was there than RM. Just wish he wasn't such a tool.
He's actually quite quite brilliant on the right but vastly underrated and had no consistant runs in the team. Early on when he was playing more he actually got so close to scoring a dozen or so times. He hit the bar/post 4/5 times early in the season, he crosses quite well(most of the time) got quite a few assists and was involved in a lot of VERY good build up play. Something that happens with both Sagna and Eboue in the team is absolutely world class overlapping play down the wing, something completely non-existant with Hleb playing there. By Eboue and Sagna constantly playing each other into the overlap both looked brilliant and Eboue made Sagna much better in attack than hleb did. You shoudl also remember back, it was Eboue in several games that created some brilliant chances, if you remember he played a couple brilliant, world class one-two's with bendtner, did a fantastic backhell to set Bendtner up for a goal.
He is truly very very good, only marred by over reacting to tackles way to often and going down very easily. If Wenger just gave him a clip round the ear and told him to stop it and given a run in the team he really would become very very good there.
ANother thing to remember is the early Man U game, Sagna + Eboue, Giggs(on form that part of the season), and Evra (also great form) were completely and utterly shut out the entire game while Eboue was on, Ronaldo and giggs switched, still not an iota of luck. Eboue was so good that Man U had very little quality attacking, however the second Eboue went off, Giggs and Evra, and Ronaldo ran riot down our right flank and created their goal down the flank and repeatedly attacked well. Eboue and Sagna is possibly the strongest defensively and maybe offensively partnership in the world.
If only he was less of a ****.
Happy to see him in central as he's pacey, can intercept, very strong, creative, and read the game well. I'd be happy to see him out right too but get the feeling with Eduardo, RVP, Theo, Nasri, Wiltshire, Ramsey, Traore, Lansbury and Vela all able to play on the wings, that he might not be needed there. If things had gone differently, and some of his shots literally inches different he could have scored 5 goals in his first 5 games on the right wing, added to assists and had a sustained run. Want to see him dive less, though to be fair he's much better than a few years ago but his reputation sees him get a few more harsh tackles to get him to react, same with Rooney I guess, lol, and Lehman
