I was due to get a 360 soon but I want something that will last me and not break. The games on the 360 look awsome and I like the pad. The ps3 has more robust hardware and has br and wireless out of the box and the games are pretty good also but the pad is pretty meh for me.

Its a hard choice to make and with the fact that its taken ages to save so I don't want to through money away. The games seem cheaper on the 360 (the older ones). I could just get the 360 play it for a year and then trade it in for a ps 3 when more games are out.:(

Buy which ever you think you'd get the most out of. They're both good consoles, and both have plus and minus sides.

Take a look at which games you really want to play, and then get the console that caters for most of them.

I own both and I would go with a 360 tbh. More games, achievements and as you say a better pad. Even if it does brake down eventually (mine did) going a week or two while its being replaced (for free) isn't that big of a deal.

I think if you have a separate games PC you should get the PS3 since so many of the best 360 games eventually make their way to PC.

Otherwise currently the 360 has the better back catalogue of games, but the PS3 is looking strong for the next couple years, as is the 360.

Basically whichever one you get you will enjoy, and at the same be ****** off your missing out on some exclusive.

True, I do want to play halo3 and gears I'm kinda lucky in away I haven't played a 360 and its been out for ages now I have a wealth of good games to explore if I do get one. I think I would use it a lot which will probably cause it o break quicker. I'm the sort of person that gets hooked on a game and then will play it at every opertunity for hours and hours on end in some cases.

get the 360
get it from a well known high street chain if it breaks inside 12 months they will swap it in store not much of a worry is it
especially as the new machines are much more reliable
ps3 is probably just as likely to break on you these days with the amount of br laser failures

The new falcon 360s are much better and a lot less likely to break.

Let's try and keep this simple:

If you plan to game online, and have friends that do also then easy answer is get a 360.

If you enjoy movies, and have a HDTV then get a PS3 for Blu-ray.

Buying in this late, both consoles will offer you more than enough games, and the Dualshock 3 controller for the PS3 is a lot better than the crappy six-axis one.

Well looking online at the prices it all adds up to the 360 for me. The wireless add-on for the 360 is way to overpriced and pushes the cost of an Elite up to ps3 costs. The pro/premium is the way to go even when you add the wireless add-on and and play and charge kits it still looks like a good deal. I will probably get mine bundled in with a few games, halo3, gears and maybe gta.

Gaming the main point with the occasional DVD/HD-DVD playback? Get an Xbox

Media the main point with the occasional game (although Metal Gear and Uncharted are awesome and could be a main point for a while)? Get a Playstation

Xbox360's are much much more reliable now.

PS3 has free online, wireless and Blu-Ray.

Almost all games are multi-format, there aren't that many exclusives - or at least many good ones, I would say there's only 2 major ones this year, one for each console, MGS4 for PS3 and Gears of War 2 for Xbox360, then there are a bunch of lower level exclusives (LBP for PS3 and Ninja Gaiden 2 on Xbox360 for example).

So have a look at past and future games to come to a decision.

It really comes down to which one has the games you want the most, seeing as that's what you'll be (hopefully) spending most of your time using with the machine. Personally I went with a PS3, most of the games available on the 360 that I'd want are also on the PS3 or PC, and I really wanted MGS4 etc. My housemate had a 360 which I used a lot, and I'm far more impressed with what the PS3 can do.

The experience of those games on the pc compared to the 360 is utter rubbish though... Gears is nothing on the pc compared to how it is on the 360, same with Halo 2 for the xbox and a lot of other titles - Get the 360

PS3 does online free and you can still play with friends, it just lacks a lot of the better features of live, but I would no way use this as the strongest argument to support an Xbox360 as the purchase to get.

Xbox360 is every bit as HD as PS3 for games, PS3 has Blu-Ray, Xbox360 has a £20 add-on HD-DVD drive and a lot of cheap HD-DVD's available for bargain prices, so both do movies, Blu-Rays are a lot more expensive, but obviously, that's the format of the future.

So, so true.

This is a good point. Console to PC ports are never the same, they lack the soul that they have on consoles.
Then there is Dead Rising which is a game everyone should play in their lifetime.

What you saying! Don't forget Fable 2 and Lost Odyssey for rpg good times!

Eh?

I'm afraid I don't understand, or agree at all with this statement.
Gears on the PC was FAR superior... from the better graphics, to the parts that were cut out of the 360 version, making the story complete... I just don't follow at all.

I played Dead Rising, but got bored after 10 mins... still, horses for courses on this one.

Vin.
