Hi,
I plug the network cable into the Rear pannel LAN port (on me new Asus P5Q) and the light on my Netgear router doesnt light up like it should (it does when i plug it into the network card in this pc). Could i have a faulty mobo? Or is there something in the BIOS i can change to enable it or something? Any help and advice would be great, thanks.

Chris

Go into BIOS->Onboard Device Configuration, and there you will find Marvell LAN 1 & 2, make sure the option corresponding to the ethernet port on i/o panel is enabled....

Thanks, but..
No Marvell LAN 1&2
just:

Atheros GigaBit LAN [enabled]
LAN Boot ROM [enabled]

(was already enabled)
THIS is the motherboard i have.. its the cheapy one.. if that helps.

Cheers,
Chris

Do you see the built-in network port in the device manager?
Do you see an icon for it in the "Start->Control Panel-> Network Connections"?
Have you tried it without the add-in card (it could be overriding the onboard)?

Sorry, my mistake, I was "assuming" you where using P5Q "Deluxe" and not P5Q...which that being the case:

Atheros Gigabit LAN - [Enabled]
LAN Boot ROM [Disabled]

Make sure you have the correct LAN drivers installed within Windows, if this does not work, try another cable between ethernet port and router..

Right no point starting a new thread but i dont know what to do.

My computer was running fine yesterday (first time it was up and running) plugged in today and it cant aquire the network address. When it does i'm on limited to no connection and cant get online

asus p5q pro

-made sure its set to get address auto
-reset the bios
-re-installed ethernet drivers
-re-installed windows

any thing else I could do? I've been at this for hours.

It's the linux based quick boot thingy.

You'll likely have to install it from the CD if you haven't already done so.

Right just done that and still no connection. The modem is fine as i've tried it on 2 other pc that obtain the ip auto. Reseting the bios has done nothing.

What are the chances that the ethernet port has died? It lights up with slow pulses. Been on this for hours now and i'm totally stumped.

Are you using the drivers on the CD or have you downloaded the latest ones?

Tried all

If I switch LAN ethernet off in bios then it doesnt even try to connect so I guess this must be a sign that its not physically broken?

Don't understand why it was fine and now its not.
