Like Producing but as all of my stuff is for PC (currently setting Bootcamp up for this), but I want to work in the mac enviroment, and Logic seems popular.

Anyone tell me what its like to use? learn?

It's the best basically, better than cubase, pro-tools, etc.

As for learning it, there a lot of features, but it's easier than it was in v5.51

Lots of great plug-ins out the box, this is probably one of the best things about logic. I quite like using reaktor as a plugin, but this needs quite a beefy rig... If you've got a Mac Pro tho you won't have to worry. ;)

My heart lays with Logic. It's fantastic, I learnt in version 7 at college then because of having a stupid windows PC I had to use 5.5 platinum, now because of even more stupid Vista I can't use anything :(

I miss logic :(

I have Logic Studio, after HE discount i got it for £118

******* Superb program, i use it mainly for mixing down and mastering. It was superb and very intuitive and easy to use!

Seriously, dual boot or pick up a mac (if you can afford it that is)....

I'm still running XP on my old PC simply so I can use logic 5.51 (and access my old songs).

8 is nice, but it's amazing what's possible in 5.51 plat. ;)

You have apple the thank for 5.51 being the last PC version, they bought out e-magic, and made it mac exclusive.

I got the 2.8 iMac (simply stunning so far), but am ordering the 4GB SODIMM's when the bank tells me its ok to do this.

Would it have enough grunt?

I find it quite extraordinary people talking about protools and logic plat...

'Unless' you're in the music business, you do NOT need such involved software.

That said, most people don't need 50" tvs, but have them.

Agreed it is overkill for many things, but there are quite a few less well known unsigned bedroom producers out there... You've got to start somewhere havent you? Why restrict yourself to something such as Reason or Fruity?

It's a similar situation with Photoshop, you don't really need such a powerful app unless you are involved with photography or printing, but we both know that there are many more casual users who just use it for resizing pics or captioning cats. ;)

Gah, cant stand FL, the seqencer is just awful imo, far too clumsy.

Will take alook but it seems as tho im going with logic to give it ago.

Define "music business" ;)

I know people who have studios based on Cubase (in a decked out shed), and others who have lavish Pro Tools set ups at home. Both are producing tracks for a decent label, at similar quality.

Like MikeHunt79 said.. some people like to use what everyone else uses. It makes them feel more competent.

Music business probably was the worst 'term' I actually could have picked!

So in reparation, I'd say unless the production was going to be marketed at some sort of attempt of making reasonable (!?) money / promotion/ serious exposure ect, the aforementioned software is overkill.

But as you say, how long is a ball of string?, and as you also say, cubase, sonar(moi) ect, is more than capable. I've run every thing between a home studio and a semi pro studio, and found sonar 'pretty' capable of most tasks.

Agree conformity is a huge (marketing) factor in the decision process. Although I'll bet much of the time spent familiarising with logic would be better spent being creative!
