I have a choice of upgrading from an Abit pro to either of these boards for around the same cost £85 to go xfire.

I have a q6600.

Which offers the best overclocking potential with my chip?

Which would you buy?

I have the Asus Maximus Formula with my Q6600 (vid 1.2v) and managed to reach 3.6GHz with no problems at all. I could definitely achieve higher, but I don't have the time at the moment. Highly recommended, I would buy it again if I needed to.

Heard a lot of good things about the Maximus Formula, and my old ASUS P5K-E was rock solid I loved it.

Not impressed at all with my X38-DQ6 atm, too many dodgy BIOS versions and there's not much info I can find for what BIOS settings to use for 4-4.5Ghz clocks on E8400/E8500 Wolfdales.

EDIT: Said too soon, using latest F9d beta BIOS whilst tweaking some of the settings on it and it's booted Vista and currently Priming @ 500x8 (4Ghz). Rather happy :D

Cheers for that Easy, maximus it is then.

Dreading the strip down, waterloop draining etc but worth it to get xfire and then get that 2nd 4870 up and running.

Will be interesting to see how it goes Greebo, I was close to swapping to the Maximus the other day just so I have CF ready if I ever wanted it, but I'd also need new psu and I dont even have a 4870 yet so I thought better of it.

I'll let you know how it gets on especially overclocking.

First job before the mobo arrives is to fit my new blu ray burner :D
