Now comes the complaint, the use of special abilities has me extremely worried. This is was a superb battleground sim. Armies were realistic in the original S:TW and M:TW, since Rome crazy weapons have been appearing. I know its there to add flavour to the game but i want realism, that’s why i pay to keep a PC up to date and a PS3 for the arcadey games.

What are the other fans of this series thinking about this?

Played every Total War game to death, and I agree I dont like the idea of special abilities/"fantasy" units.

Having said that however, it doesnt really bother me to be honest, the best times I have had with the Total War games is when playing with the various mods (Deus Lo Vult, Stainless Steel etc), so when I play Empire Total War I will no doubt be playing a mod that has things more realistic anyway.

It seems more of special units -which I think is fine. Would be good if you could enable/disable them before you played a game, locking them out of the tech tree.

I just want to know when they will do a fantasy version / Warhammer / Lotr using the Total war engine and officially developed would be magnificent.

I agreed about that if you wanted to disable/enable them they should let you

I'm waiting on upgrading my pc until this released just so i can get it playing as well as possible. The naval battles are going to require a complete rethinking of tactics and gameplay which has got me SO excited. Not since M:TW1 have i been so excited by a PC game

As said above, a mod should sort this problem out.

My bigger worry is related to the limited number of playable factions. While this is supposedly meant to "keep balance" among the AI, it kinda makes the vanilla game die for me pretty quickly after playing with all of the major factions that are included as playable. It would have been rather cool to be able to play with smaller states and make them better with the right kind of in-game policies.

I felt the same with M:TW2, even with mods. But for R:TW the total realism team have another amazing patch on the horizon. Those guys turned a 90% game into an all time strategy classic. Lets hope they get bored with Rome and try their hands at E:TW

What year is the game set?

Is it pre-peninsular war or American independence?

Actually I'm guessing its 1750ish onwards

Its from the start of 1700

Is there a source on that? Just wondering.

Will uniforms change over the course of time?

I much prefer the look of the Peninsular redcoat uniform, with the shako rather than a tricorne as shown in the pics. I'm quite interested in the Napoleonic war era.
