What song raises the hair on your neck

Sanvean by Dead Can Dance. Particularly spellbinding when I first heard it used as part of the West Wing.

Here's a live version:
(ignore the hippie gubbins at the beginning). You'd never know it wasn't the studio version; she has an incredible voice.

Dire Straits - Telegraph Road, just a brilliantly epic song. Goes through the whole spectrum of emotions :)

Samuel Barber - Adagio for Strings (also played in "Platoon")

Every version of that brings the hairs up. Whether it be pure strings, or the trance remixes.

Too many other songs to list though. Lots rock, lots of trance.

PinkFloyd, Led Zeppelin, Jean Michele Jarre all getting mentions!

Strange but listening to this literally kills me..

Nothing has the same effect as 80,000 people singing the same song at an event that is of major historical significance.

Is it just for powerful songs or songs that you enjoy everytime? Although for a different nation similar to kaks above there is always something special about hearing O Flower Of Scotland belted out at Murrayfield in particular.

My choice however is Lynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird. I've said before and I'll say it again, I think it is the best song ever, no exceptions. Goddamnit if it doesn't sound heartfelt each and every time I listen to it.

Honourable mentions to Fleetwood Mac - Albatross and Kenny Rodgers - The Gambler.

Diana Damrau singing Der Hölle Rache. A strong piece in its own right, but the ease with which she hits the top F's astounds me every time.

Muse - Citizen Erased

Me too, and the opening to Plug in Baby.

Music with a powerful crescendo tends to have the effect on me. Another is Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, especially with real bells and cannon.

Rolf Harris. Two Little Boys.

Just as he gets to "do you think I would leave you dying", happens every time. It's happening just thinking about it!
