Powerful/Emotional Moving Pictures & Videos

That pic from the voyager makes you think, what purpose does this planet serve... We're ants, battling away and forever dieing and being born. It's pretty intriguing when you think in depth about it... I'm fascinated with the unknown, including death - when its my time I'll be nervous but excited about getting the answer.

Sticking with the space-related theme:

In 2003, the Hubble Space Telescope pointed at an empty patch of sky for a period of 11 days. The resullt was the Hubble Ultra Deep Field.

The Ultra Deep Field contains an estimated 10,000 galaxies.

That makes me feel really insignificant.

but you can't have my liver!

I just watched that video aswell, never have I felt as much anger building up from my gut. How the hell someone could continue to drive around the track whilst there's quite obviously someone inside (group of people trying to help / extinguish the flames makes it fairly obvious.

There's a lot more to it than that, in fairness.

The marshalls were ill-equipped and not trained to deal with such a situation, and David Purley was the only one involved wearing fireproof clothing. He was the only one that could have got that close to the car.

The whole thing was a shambles, but it's unfair to blame the marshalls. They had neither the equipment or the training to deal with it.

The fact that after the event, the organisers put a tarpaulin over his car with him still in it and continued the race is shocking though.

As far as the other drivers are concerned, they were probably passing it too fast to see what was going on. All they probably saw was a burning car with a racing driver stood next to it, and besides there would have been nothing they could have done. Purley stopped because he saw his friend crash, and he stopped because he was his friend.

It's so sad though, one of the few videos that without fail makes me well up every time I see it.

Yeah thats what I think, but I'm still interested to find out what having no self awareness of being 'living' is like. It's difficult to comprehend not having any more thoughts.

sort of, sort of not, do you remember your thoughts and being aware before being born ?

same thing I would think, although staggering when you consider the billions of years that past whilst you weren't aware

I second the ultra deep field. Probably the most single most important image ever taken IMO. Always sends a shivering sensation through me whenever I see it.

The world trade centre video is pretty harrowing to watch - i just couldnt imagine myself in that situation

Good to see there are some positive photos as well, its what we need more of :)

never seen that before, made me so angry those guys didnt put any effort in to try and save someones life

Try not to be too angry with those guys....the intense heat from the fire would have made it impossible for them to get near the car to be fair to them...the only reason the other driver got as close as he did is because he had a fireproof suit on.

As heartbreaking as it obviously is there really was nothing they could do really.

its possibly an interesting thought that when asked to post something that touched or moved them, the vast majority in this thread are about negative events relating to death and destruction.

are we more easily moved to negative than positive emotions?
