Hiyo,

With the recent HUGE success of The Dark Knight and Watchmen looking like a 'dark' film do you guys think that the new Superman film will be a success? It seems to me that audiences now want more gritty, realistic flicks. I think that Superman is too wholesome to be a success, maybe if he actually hit someone that may change. What do you guys think?

Have you seen smallville? That pretty much nailed the final coffin in the superman series.

They had a superman who still wore tighty whiteys and his parents were pop singers. It was funny as experimental pile surgery.

But I think super heros / dc comics / crap like that is totally rubish anyway.

Batman was kinda cool though.

Thats my point. You are obviously not a fanboy but you liked batman, tbh i dont know anyone who would say Superman is 'cool'!

Yeah latest smallville was good the early seasons were a bit pap tho.

If superman wants good ratings it needs a realistic and dark theme not happy and easy like that crap last one was which was crap cos of new actor tbh.

Needs a over powered enemy for superman to be interesting and a struggle. The best superman films i think were the ones with zord and the companions and the one with that blond guy with superpowers in i think the last proper superman films.

Batman: "It's the car, right? Chicks love the car. (From Batman Forever)"

Maybe they could make a back outfit for superman, like spiderman3 only with someone who can act.

I think this season of SV is a pap, many filler episodes where you can tell writers running out of ideas, more plodding along rather than doing something with the episode.

lol sun boy superman film was the worst of the lot. Superman & Superman II were brilliant films.

iBot- you again? :-/ Crap taste in games and in tv series.

Not all films have to be dark and gritty, they can very much so be wholesome and successful.

I really like Superman, but still haven't seen the newest one because I didn't agree with the casting :p.

The fact is that Superman isnt as popular as other super heroes, and there isnt much depth to what they can do with him.

I would like to see another Superman movie (like a hulk revamp) but i read that we wont see superman again till the justice league movie in 2011.

But superman cant have a dark gritty theme to it. Thats not superman. Superman is supposed to be seen as the perfect being, the perfect hero.

His only downfall is that he cant save everyone. They could make a movie where they explore this downfall, but Superman has already accepted that he cant save everyone.

The darkest they could go is if they made a film of the Death of Superman Arc. Fighting Doomsday on the big screen would be insanely epic. Then they could finish with his death.

I think Superman really should be taken back to the big screen. Superman is about a guy trying to fit in to human life. It's never really been properly displayed on the screen. He's always been a notoriously difficult character to write for, and I still don't think there has been a "definitive" portrayal of him outside of the comics.

They should bring "The Death of Superman" to the big screen. I'd love to see him and Doomsday trade blows for about 20 minutes before they kill each other. I think it'd be excellent.

Also, it's probably worth noting that there will be another Superman movie. There is no character in as many comic book titles at the moment, than there is Superman. He's currently a main character in 8 titles.
