I was just at the petrol pump, and a Transit at the pump next to me swiped the drivers corner of my car as he drove away! Drivers wing is dented and scratched, as are both halfs of the front bumper (metal and plastic) and the indicator cluster is damaged.
Worst thing is he didnt stop and just drove off!!!!

He can't have not noticed what he did as my car was scraped down a good 5 foot length of his van.

Anyone got experience with this sort of thing and know what to do? The garage said they have cctv if I need it.

I got the vans REG number and colour/make but that was all. I never saw who was driving as they were in the van as I pulled up and stopped.

Cheers for any advice.

Take the REG number and cctv tape to the police. Report to your insurance company.

Easy enough.

It is unlikely that they will give you the CCTV footage. Report it to the police and they will be able to request the CCTV footage from the garage as part of their investigation.

yes, data protection stuff prevents them giving it to just anyone who asks, the police will need to request it

sounds like a typical white van driver, inconsiderate ****s, don't care because it's a company van i'm going to crash into things, tailgate, waft along in the outside lane and generally drive like a ***.

Make sure you report him.

Doesn't work like that. Because you and your car is visible you have a specific right to a copy of it, you can make a subject data access request and they must provide you with a copy of it.

Ok I made a call to local police station and have to go in tomorrow morning to report it properly. The bloke on the other end of the phone was less than useless.

Having worked at an Esso garage, you cannot just get the footage, the bobby does have to do the above and request the tape, or just view it by going there in person and taking notes, then asking for your details after and letting you view it.

It happened a lot where I worked ¬_¬

This is true, as far as I know. I've studied about the DPA and from what I remember, you're elligible to recieve any CCTV footage that you appear in.

you will lucky if the police bother to do anything, call them and said you seen someone doing 31 in a 30...... 6 cop cars all at once.

That sounds about right, im sure i read about a band who cut a music video after performing in front of a bunch of cctv cameras and then requesting the footage under the DPA.

Will people please stop coming out with this tedious and inaccurate (speed cameras are operated by civilians, not the police) nonsense in the middle of other people's threads? It's not satire, it's not funny, and it's not even true.
