Tell me about the E46 M3....

Then he needs better tyres.

I've hit standing water at more than 50mph and have never spun off... and I'm sure an M3 has better road holding than my car.

Still, shame to see the picture.

That depends on the standing water. I was driving a company metro van many years ago in the dark and didnt see a large puddle which must have been pretty deep. When I hit it at 40mph, it threw me across the road, luckily there wasnt any traffic coming the other way else there would have been a head on crash.

oooooooh dear....

he hit standing water @ 50mph and to be honest i think even the TC might have had issues with it as they aint that smart.

i didnt say he was a "pro driver" ANYWHERE in my post did i?

I never mentioned anything about 'pro driver':confused: Besides, I wasn't particularly talking about your friend in that quote you replied to :)

If you are refering to the 'corrected' quote, my point was that TC isn't some miracle cure for wet driving, your original post appeared to suggest that your freind crashed simply because he switched the TC off.

So why did your original post seem to suggest you think it wouldn't have happened if he didn't switch the TC off?

The M3 can be prone to aquaplaining in deep water even with brand new tyres with lots of tread as can many cars with fat low profile tyres. It depends on the depth of the water and sometimes the type/quality/newness of the tyres count for nothing. If the tyres loose contact with the road there is nothing TC will do to help you and you are in the hands of Mr Luck.

^ Spoken for truth, remember years ago on the M25 came out of a tunnel and hit what I would call a thin layer of water on the exit to the tunnel, I was in the outside lane when exiting the tunnel but a few seconds later the car was moving diagonally and I was on the inside lane. Never hit the brakes and just had to let the car do whatever it wanted till I got some grip back and luckily there were no cars on the inside :)

EDIT: Should say the above wasn't in an M3.

as the guys said mtorque best place to go, get one with full s/h and that has had the running in service carried out on time. points re coil springs being consumable are accurate. looks best on genuine csl wheels.

Popular colour combos - silver grey / red interior, carbon black with red or kiwi interior.

mine :D
