I finally buckled and said yes, my first wedding shoot...!

Same here, we looked at loads of photographers for our wedding last year and based on your work/style above you beat them hands down - we looked at one for over £1.5k and your shots equal his at least :)
The pro we went with cut off heads, under exposed a fair bit etc -luckily a friend was there with her gear and took some fantastic shots.

Well done.
Unfortunately these days, what with it not being so difficult to process and print like it was with film, most wedding photographers are freelance amateurs, asking for too much money. Im going to go against the grain here and say i dont like these shots, not bad for a first time maybe, but i would be dissapointed if id have forked out. There something snappy about them, disjointed from the actual couple, as if your not the official photographer and the black and white is used on shots that don't benefit from it.

I can see what you mean, out of those, i can't see the couple printing one out and display it on the wall. They look nice as a set but nothing stand alone, perhaps the one over the balcony could be but it doesn't have that spark still.

However, as a first attempt at wedding photography in a documentary style, it's a thumbs up from me.

Thanks all :)

I convert the ones that suit mono better. There is a good mixture of both I just happen to have shown more mono here in the small selection I posted is all :)

Cool, didn't mean it as a bad thing. Just B&W pics don't appeal to me.

Love them though as others have said, wish I had that talent.

@ ChroniC and Raymond Lin, but isn't this meant to be reportage wedding photography? That's what I believe SilverPenguin was going for.

like the photo's and i must say you are very brave doing a wedding m8.
But hat's of to you as the photo's are pretty good and you look to have a future in wedding's.....lol.

Nice pictures indeed, love the family shoot using the steps, nice touch.

as for 2 cameras, nah, two people is better. Use a S5 and a 17-85mm VR lens, thats all you need, plus a SB800 flash of course.

Nice pics and even better for your 1st time doing it. I am sure the bride and groom will be very happy with them.

I never read that in his posts? Seems a strange thing to do considering the rest of the family in essence are documenting the little things of the day from a distance.

Thanks for the replies everyone, much appreciated.

Thanks for the honest feedback, I've never claimed to be a wedding photographer but I've had an overwhelmingly positive response so although photography is very subjective, thankfully I seem to have pressed the right buttons for the majority (and most importantly the couple!), more so than I expected because I've never done this before - still not enough to make me want to do another though lol. I do know I'll never knock another persons wedding photos again though having seen how stressful it is lol

This is just a small selection of the hundreds of shots so I picked out some random ones that covered the day overall to show here which probably doesn't help with the disjointed feeling you mention. I did take 'typical' shots too but they are a little boring to me so decided not to show those here.

Yes, true, but there is (I like to think) a difference between a point and shoot picture and a nice capture of someone using the appropriate DOF. In any case, the couple, both friends of mine, had asked for me to do more candid shots as they don't like the traditional formal stuff and to be honest thats one of the reasons I agreed, I hate the traditional stuff where its all posed, un-natural looking and just 'typical' wedding photos - but thats personal preference, as is the use of mono which is easier to make an informed choice when you have the colour image and mono side by side. They wanted the day covered from all angles from them to small details to guest interaction. They also insisted I be a guest too and actually asked me to stop taking photos and enjoy myself at times lol.

@ Colin, if I could split myself in half I would have lol. But a second camera would have been easier (and not as messy lol).

EDIT: Having said that, I've had two requests from friends since to take photo's at their weddings...bugger! lol

If you didn't want to do any, don't do the first one LOL

I thought that, and now i have done 3, and possibily a paid booking for one next year! I went through the last one basically with 1 body and 2 lenses as well.

You are indeed braver than me sir lol

I've been asked in the past but have always said no, should have stuck to my guns lol. I'd not do another without a second body IF I did do more...

The pros who did the one "offically" for mainly the posed pics in the last wedding i did had 2 photographers (they are a couple) and 4 bodies, I saw Nikon D3, 3 x D300, 24-70, 70-200, Fisheye and some prime lens, along with SB-800, and a few flash triggers.

They had a clipboard with all the shots they needed to do, went to the venue before hand, 1 went off to the reception straight after the ceremony so that she could photo the B&G arriving with the other one travelling with the B&G. When they were at the Bride's house, they were scouting the family photos on the wall and when one of them saw one of the parents of the bride sitting on a bench and i heard her said to the other "Emulate". So they are constantly looking for shots outside their normal planned one as well.

The are basically the best professional wedding togs i've come across so gfar.
