Glad they didnt go with a "safer" choice like Strauss..

I think Pietersen is the character that can handle the situation. I think given his character it will bring out a better player in him

As long as his batting form doesn't slump then its maybe an ok option. Still think he has a lot to learn about captaincy though. Long term I would look towards Cook though.

Hahaha! Dont make me laugh. His brains are in his ass. He would fail big time.

On a side note, did anyone hear Alec Stewart calling him all sorts of names under the sun the other day after the way he got out when he was on 94? lol, he wasnt impressed!

Edit: Oh its true! Oh dear, i fear the another botham issue coming here.

Odd odd decision.

Great batsman, but I don't think he has the brains or patience to be a strategical captain.

Someone who basically turned into an alcoholic last time he tried it?? Right.

He's a better choice than Pietersen, I didn't say he was perfect. Have you seen Pietersens style? Unless he changes his aggressiveness and selfish way of playing, England have no chance with him captaining.

He'll either be absolutely terrible, or he might actually learn to be a team player.

Either way he's going to have a very rocky ride at the beginning.

I'd rather have Pietersen as captain than Freddie.

Not because I think Pietersen is better suited, but because Freddie has more than enough on his plate as it is, and adding the stresses of captaincy could wreck him.

Is he really? Not exactly a fantastic record, not a brilliant tactician, prone to overbowling himself (and he's just back from injury). Personally I think they should have left the captaincy split but if they must have one captain for all forms of the game, KP is the only real choice (unless you want to risk it all on Cook or, outside choice, Anderson?)

Agreed.

It stinks of the same reasons Beckham was given the footie captaincy. Not because of his traits, but because of his high profile.

Yeah I heard this - thought Alec was very good on TMS. He was cleaning up KP big time and I'm sure he didn't expect him to be captain a few days later!

I agree about the high profile stuff.

Who else in the current england team will be about in years to come though. Seems very choppy and changey.

Maybe Strauss(?) Bell Cook Panesar Pietersen Flintoff (barring injuries) will probably always be around in the next few years at least.

Out of them you could say Strauss but that is pretty safe, Flintoff definitely not obviously he has a lot to deal with being an "all rounder".

Cook might be a captain in the future.

I dont know. Its hit or miss, but you could say that for anyone

They went with the "Saffer" choice.
