car that puts the biggest smile on your face for less than £500! (past experiences)

Alfa 156 2.5 V6...

Cost me 500 notes, nothin up with it!! The previous owner did something to the gearbox and so thought the gear linkage had gone...my rather 'in the know' brother fixed it though for no cost, just needed some TLC!

Ace car, miss it loads, the noise never failed to put a smile on my face!

The only car ive had which has cost me less than £500 was a citroen xantia turbodiesel. This car was so slow and handled so badly that it wasnt fun under any circumstance.

:(

Citroen ZX 16v, £350. None of the electrics worked (and that's not an exaggeration) and the rest of it gradually fell apart but it was by far the most fun I've ever had in a car. Fond memories.

awesome. :D

would love one myself as a project. :)

Rover 620 TI.. T reg, £450

was pretty damn quick and a lot of car for the money, infact the rover 600 series is good for your money.

Cant complain about my Rover Coupe VVC 1.8 K series.

Done 5k without any money needing to be spent on it.

Exhaust blows and the front brakes are warped but its fairly quick and economical.

£101 for a very dodgey VW Scirocco... had been crash repaired (badly) after being rear ended.... so we (brush) painted it silver with radiator paint, attached a load of tat to it and ragged it to within inches of its life across Europe (while playing Hewie Lewis on repeat...) inc driving down the Stelvio Pass at dusk, mmmmm

Awesome just awesome, you are my hero :D:D:D

an mg metro was a great car for £75 he thaught it had hgf but it was just a leaky rad that cost me £25

My 1500 that was given to me by a local Elvis impersonator.

Bit tatty around the edges but always started, never wanted for anything come rain, snow or shine and was a hoot to drive! Lots of wheelspinning on skinny cheap tires :D

Quite good on fuel, comfortable, had overdrive so didn't wring it's neck on the motorways at cruising speeds and a stereo that worked.

Even had T&T. Sold it after a few thousand miles for 350. Muhah.

My first car was an old 850 mini bought for £75 at auction, mainly because it had Cooper S disc brakes on it. Had a huge amount of fun in it for a year, then MOT ran out and I sold it for £50 after nicking the discs and putting drums on it. It was used as a getaway in an armed robbery a couple of weeks later...

My AX GTi was free, though needed it a little bit of work, but was a fun car.

My first car.. an E plate 1.1 Fiesta "Festival" bought in 2001.

Though it probably put a smile on my face just for the fact it was a car, and it was mine (and my first) rather than it being any good. Served me well though. £350.

You can get a Rover Turbo for under £500 now.

Spend £30 on a boost controller and it's one hell of a lot of bang for your buck.

0-60 in around 6.4 seconds and it'll go on to do 150mph.

Bingo, I'm a tiny bit of a rover fanboy (for reasons unknown), but it does make a lot of sense. 200+bhp, reliable and cheap to fix etc.

Cheapest car i've had set me back a grand and that was my 2.8 granada when i first past my test, it was also the most fun i've had in a car.

Hands down best fun car, Suzuki SJ410, cost me £250 originally, sold it for £300, then bought it back 6 months later for £170.

1989 Mk2 XR2 - £350 with 60k on her.

Standard bar an Ashley exhaust system.

Went like stink, drove like a go kart and it got the hardest 6months of its life from me :D

Mine's gotta be my old H plate Citroen AX GT, all white except for the continuous oily flow onto the driver's side front bumper, £450 5 years ago, and brilliant fun to drive! :D
