Watercooling Advice

You'll need 6 barbs and clips in total as far as i know. 2 for the rad, 2 for the pump, and 2 for the block.

Ok, this has got my head hurting, and now the price is rising....

I will only be cooling the CPU for now, im going to have a rethink...... brb ;)

I would recommend everything there apart from the rad.

I am in the process of discontinuing the Alphacool rads in favour of some BlackICE models instead.

HWlabs Black Ice range and Alphacool nexxus rads are one and the same - at least they used to be. Made by the same factory in China and then re-distributed by said 'manufacturers'.

I've listed here ways in which you can choose certain products, as in my opinion, a choice on a certain part of your loop will affect what part will work well with it.

1. CPU Block - If you want to use the bay res and pump combo, going with the FuZion will help due to the weak head pressure that pump offers compared to a DDC.

The Supreme is restrictive as it uses a inpingement plate, if you want an all in one pump/res solution then XSPC do a great DDC top with a tank built in. This will match the Supreme very well.

2. Tubing - 7/16th over 1/2" barbs. I would use D-Tek or DangerDen barbs over EK as the seal is much tighter.

3. Coolant - Distilled Water with PT Nuke. Do NOT use dyes, I used to and after seeing the crap that came out of my parts after a clean up, it became apparent how stupid it is to include it.

You want to use dyes? Don't come crying to those when your impingment block becomes clogged with crap when the dye seperates (as it will do) and also when you can't clean it out of your radiator 100% fully. If you want to tear your loop apart every 6 months or less then go a head.

And most retailers are now routinely putting RMA parts under a UV lamp as they can reject RMAs if they find so much as a splash of UV fluid on it. Some will even charge you £10 for the privilege. Some retailers are now also rejecting RMAs if you've replaced the stock cooler - and then replaced the original. They use traces of non-standard TIM to 'prove' this. All the retailers sell WC kit, but they very much wash their hands of you (no pun intended) if it goes wrong after the water cooling has been installed, even if the issue isn't the water-cooling. Using distilled water avoids the conductivity problems and it's undetectable subsequently. Using deionised is almost as good, but you don't get the same level of protection against conductivity issues.

Really???!?!?!

ocuk too? Yewen, got a comment on this? Is this part of your RMA procedure?

anyone actually had any experience with the XSPC Dual Reservoir & Pump combo? on paper for ppl like me and Wedge it looks like a good cheap starting point for a first loop.
thanks dude's

Just read through Huddys thread/blog...i am going to sleep on this and list a final parts list tomorrow.

Righty then, my final list, bear in mind this is for my CPU only (for now)...

Please no more on the coolent/distilled water/antifreeze etc!

Im just looking for conformation that the above will fit together and that i have enough over everything ie: barbs.

I think this will be a nice starter setup to get me into the world of watercooling, so barring any glaring errors of judgment above...ill be ordering this little lot very soon :D

You've now swapped to an even weaker pump and retained the restrictive supreme.

Please read the posts below and consider a more powerful pump or a less restrictive cpu block.

As you appear to be on a budget and initially liked the dual-bay pump thingy, maybe get that with the XSPC edge. This is a workable (cheap) combination.

That pump is a bit weedy and the supreme cpu block is very restrictive.

If you stick with that pump consider the Fuzion v2 block or, better still, the XSPC Edge.

If you really want the use the EK supreme I would really consider getting a stronger pump (DDC or D5)

I think the "750" is the same as the double bay jobby.

Ignore the flow rating in lph for pumps as this is measured with no restriction. What IS important in a WC loop is the pressure of the pump. 1.8m is pretty weedy.

Consider the XSPC DDC 10w as a minimum for use with the supreme block IMO. The 18w version will be even better. (The 10w version has over twice the pressure of the double bay thing at 13 feet static head pressure)

If you stick with one of those "750" pumps, don't get the supreme block, get the fuzion or the edge. It will be more balanced.

Ok im confident this is it lol..

Have i ordered enough barbs?

Thanks for your help F1zzy ;)

The pump is the best there is. I would probably get another metre of tubing though if I were you as 6ft, while adequate does not give much, if any, room for error when cutting. For the sake of £2.34 you will save yourself some headaches later should you mis cut.
