So, we've probably all purchased things from Main dealers, and i dare say some of us have been quite suprised at how the prices sometimes can be actually very reasonable...

What are your "Dealer Bargains", or parts/service prices you have been pleasantly suprised by?

Phil :)

from Toyota:

full engine gasket set £145

If i had have bought just a set of valve stem seals seperately, each seal would be £7 each...! The total value of the engine gasket set is about £500

My old WRX - they knocked £1500 off the price before I even said much, to put it £500 below the book price.

I bought a car from a main dealer that had taken a different brand in p/x for a good £1k below anything else on autotrader, even cars that are up to a year older! The reason? The car is an "import" from Malta!

Other than that a couple of what I though were reasonable bits, rear 3rd brake light holder for <£1 which for BMW is cheap, I was expecting £3-4

i got a numberplate holder for free today!
although i did spend over €1,000 on other things :(
That's another thing, I got a free oil bag thingy off my dealer, it is a bag that holds 1l of oil, velcros into your boot and it contains a bag with a funnel, hand wipes and dipstick wipes.

That is because literally no one would buy one otherwise.

EDIT: The 1.9TDI is the base model diesel, isn't it?

Nope, the 1.9 90 ps is the base diesel, this was for the 105ps.

As for nobody buying one, that's tosh. Residuals are up on last year as more people realise the benefits (and there are benefits, you just have to be in the target demographic to have the blinkers removed), VW are including it in the upcoming line refresh and it's apparently the best selling golf badged derrivative.

and it's apparently the best selling golf badged derrivative.

so basically it outsells the golf estate ;)

in all fairness, i see the point of the golf plus, and don't understand fox's hatred of them. it's like the C-Max, and if i was in the market for something like that i would either get the c-max or the golf plus..
i'm not in the market, however, and wouldn't be seen driving one

i do like the look of the golf plus tho :o

Are there many golf badged derivatives?

What's even more amazing is when you get a dealer who actually knows how to sell the thing, the extra storage in a car no bigger is mind boggling. Plus we had some friends visit recently and getting someone 6'4" into the back of a hatchback comfortably was an impressive feat!

Trust me, we'd rather be driving round in a standard golf, but there's no way we could fit everything in when we go on trips away with the nipper, and we're not quite ready to let go of driving hatchbacks and moving up to estates or (gulp) proper MPV's.

Are there many golf badged derivatives?

RS32, Estate, Dune, Bluemotion, possibly the GTI if you count it as a separate model rather than a trim/engine level combo.

The target demographic being what?

Families with wives called Joan and husbands called Billy with at least one kid called William Jr?

:p

Target demographic being 2 adults, 1 child? Yes...do you have any idea of how much crap you need to cart round with a very young child? More than will comfortably fit in a normal hatchback without being an expert at tetris, doubly so at christmas when carting about presents for large families.

Perrsonally, the win for me is being able to fit pushchair + full weekly shop in the boot without having the bread squashed flat by the end of it!

Is it everyone's cup of tea? Obviously not (is any car?!?!) but there is definitely a market for the thing as I do see them on the road. Plus being included in the new line refresh points to it doing better than some people assume.
