Been wanting a Focus ST for ages...

the engine has quite a lazy power delivery method which suits the car well, its got a fabulous sound track.

Is yours standard mate ? I agree delivery is 'relaxed' shall we say out of the factory but certainly not lazy with the Dreamscience Race+ map ! Like for like the mpg is the same as well if not a bit better

Dunno how old you are mate, by the sounds of it, you are quite young, you have plenty of time to own a nice 'dream' car, this is the problem with the yoof of today, they want it all,NOW:p

I'm 24, sooner rather than later before the government do something completely stupid like ban all turbo engines! :p

Definately consider the GTI ED30 DSG - better mpg/emissions and same sort of 0-60 speed as the ST.

For some reason I thought TAX was going up to £300 by 2010, but it's actually £550 by 2010, bummer.

No, It's not. Thats for a brand new car, registered in 2010 will have to pay that in its first year.

2009 - £300
2001 - £310

Its hardly a disaster is it? At the moment its £210 a year... £90 extra is hardly going to break the bank when you're talking about a £20000 car.. especially when you think about how much you're going to lose in residuals anyway!

hmmmm, dont quite understand the obsession with the focus ST, it's a really good car, but, trying not to sound like a fanboy, or fox:

What does it do that a bmw 330i/Ci doesnt do better? I test drove quite a few Focus STs including wolfrace st285s and whilst they were relatively quick, not massively quicker than a 330i especially the newer one which are coming sub 20k, and they didnt feel as planted, MUCH lower build quality, lower specs (cruise not even an option?) imo not as nice a noise as the inline 6 with a sports exhaust, use more petrol and the power delivery isn't as entertaining for backroad blasts........oh, and the small factor of rwd :p

So, other than being able to get one a year or 2 newer for the same price what's the benefit of the focus ST? Running costs aren't going to be massively different either really, bmw will cost more to service but is much much much cheaper to insure surprisingly, and is in a lower tax bracket so is only going up to £310.

Dont get me wrong i do really like the Focus ST and really wanted one until driving one back to back with a bmw.

/awaits "at least you dont get branded a **** in a focus" or other such remark :p

I can't believe tax price is an issue for any potential buyer of this car.

Shut up Fox...

oh! ;)

Makes sense like.

Are the ownership costs the same between the ST and the 330i? I quite like the 330i, looks very well equiped.

The E90 is ugly as ****, and your last sentence says it all tbh, i hate the BMW image, and in all honesty, many of the BMW drivers in this forum exhibit the same things that I hate about the BMW driver.

As I said before, its just not worth spending your own money on a new ST, mind they can be had for 16k from a broker anyway, a 330 E90 is going to be quite old for 16k.

I must be the only one, but I really dont like the E90 interior its pretty damn dull and the stereo is uber pants (big big thing for me!)

I think Tom is refering to the e46, not the e90. ;)

Although like every BMW stereo it sounds crap I must say the interface of the stereo in the E91 I have atm is excellent, love the MP3 folder navigation especially. Infact the interior is pretty good all round - nothing flash but solid and well laid out.

Although it's true the E46 is 'getting on a bit' a Ford Focus is hardly the last word in modern cutting edge design, is it?

You can't buy a 'new' E46 though can you? I think that was the point made, not that style wise it looks old.

(Apologies if this is wrong but I don't follow BMW).
