New Audio/Visual Range Now Lauched at OcUK

Have you heard a good 5.1 seperates system going? I'd bet the answer is "no" I have owned Creative FPS speakers, and they were poop.

Using Arcam Alpha 9, Yamaha 592 AV amp, B&W 601 & CC6, some Kef Coda for rears, Yamaha subwoofer for the PC system. Wouldn't go back to a PC speaker system.

Aye nad stuff is much better then anything aimed at pc sound.

I laugh at people with logitech zxcrap and creative osundworksbutsoundlikecrap.

And I laugh @ you if people really care what you think :)

Majority of gamers ARE GAMERS! and as long as they can hear games they dont give a monkeys so hush up.

haha no

thief
doom 3
cs
+ most online fps

all need decent sound to excel

I've played games with the above system, nothing is quite like having the effect of machine gun blasts and grenades that actually cause fear with every left mouse press, than the naff sound from a PC 5.1 system.

No different to high end home cinema installs, oh how I laughed when I mate compared his £300 HTIB better than mine. heh put on a few demo discs and he was literally shaking afterwards.

Half-Life 2 also. Those land walkers produce quite a bit of bass. Can connect the PC up to the HT sub, if I fancy something a bit more than the crappy Yamaha subwoofer.

to excel?

An X-FI with headphones is perfect for games. No need for big expensive hi-fi thanq please.

And now you're saying 5.1 discrete surround sound and bass performance from a set of 'phones. Sorry mate you're delusional.

Grado RS-1 owner, they're superb phones but for multi-channel pale in comparison to the PC or HT audio systems.

Actually ibot and badbob you do have a point, all the pro gamers ive seen play have huge 5.1 setups and hi-fi equipment so forth at lans and at home.

O no wait, they dont. And they do EXCEL.

That's because they haven't been introduced to high end PC audio, probably. You know if you haven't heard a proper audio system, it's probably better to keep quiet.

Gaming on headphones won't provide multi-channel surround sound, so please don't show yourself up even more.

Oh and my PC audio system is just older lower end gear that I shifted across.

But you don't need it, for judging directions of sounds headphones are best.

For music films and just "fun" gaming sure a expensive hi fi system will sounds a whole lot better.

Edit: good example anyone got a link to that barber shop sound file thing, listen to that with even a cheap pair of head phones and you really feel there, try it with even the best speaker system and it just sounds crap.

EDit found it http://mosh.nokia.com/content/41A0193BAA0EF0FDE040050A44302F12 <-- try it with some headphones then with your speaker ;)

All that stuff must have cost you five or ten times as much as a set of Z-5500s. It damn well SHOULD sound better.

Why do audiophiles persist in saying this kind of thing? If someone posted about their new 3-series, would you laugh and compare it unfavourably to an Aston Martin or something? You're oblivious to the fact that different people have different budgets and different requirements. It's snobbish and utterly unhelpful.

It's all down to how much you feel that your willing to spend, some one buys a new car for £50,000, say a BMW Z4, and his mate has a £250 clapped out L reg Corsa with a different coloured bonnet on it, while they both do the same job. Get you from A to B. The £50,000 car would most likely be more enjoyable ride.

So the hifi is justifible to one person, but not the next person. What we should all agree on it the Z4 is better than the Corsa, however not every1 can justify buying the Z4 (or even afford too)

Cos they are stuck up snobs thats why, find that a lot on these forums.

And until they can prove they are pro gamers (as these are the people that excel not a few guys on a forum who claim they do) and use these hi end systems all the time then maybe I will believe them. But I could find you 1000s of gamers on IRC now that use headphones so...

Wrong. Can you pinpoint someone that's behind you, and more towards the rear left on a set of phones? Nope. A movie sound track has far more directionality than listening to it in stereo. Same for gaming, in COD4 I heard someone shooting from behind me to the left. Also going back to Creative FPS speakers, again multi-channel helps in gaming. It does give you a edge over straight stereo.

Half were free (Yamaha and Kef speakers) Arcam was £100, and the B&W speakers were not being used, they weren't bought specifically for the PC audio system. Yes if you were to fork out new for the same kit cost considerbly more. But worth it.

Because we're right. If you can't take critism, that's your problem for not being able to afford it. If you take that as snobbish then again that's your problem.

It's no different to someone with a 6600GT trying to blag to 4870 owners what he has is as good as the ATI, then going off to a tantrum when proven otherwise.

What has a pro gamer got to do with anything? Whether you play games for a careeer or just for a couple of hours a day, I can far more enjoyment and immesiveness than if I were to use a crappy PC system. Brother has some PC tat that sounds vile.

And you would be stupid to say that a Corsa is as good as BMW after test driving one.
