Our new kitty cat...(pics inside)

Puddy katt!

Lovely cat, might be looking for a kitten here soon my old beast tam is reaching the end now, shes 22 and theres been some good years but shes going a bit like old cats do.

I have 2 young cats of my own.

Can you give me an idea of what to expect when they get really old.

22 is very very old so you mustve done something right to allow the cat to reach that age. Any tips? What did you feed her on?

Usually a bit grumpy and distant. Also if they have things like liver failure and arthritis don't like being picked up, sleep most of the day and generally look tired. Our cat has changed in the last year although he does have good days but is getting on a bit :-(

When cats get old-

fir mats start building up as they struggle to completely wash.
They can latch on to a certain person and may panic without there presence.
A LOT of sleeping.
Forget toilet training :-(

Havent fed her anything special, normal cat food she has a bit of whatever meat is left over from dinners (she will go manic for salmon) and gets a slab of cheese as a treat on weekends when i do myself cheese on toast.

I used to pop in to a cat shelter a few years back and the rule of thumb is the more of a 'street mongrel' a cat is the longer it will last many 'pure breed' cats would be lucky to see 15 before liver/kidney failure while the big tabbies could hit the 20's.

Also plenty of play and fuss, purring is *very* good for a cats health.

Sounds about right. We had one that hit about twenty before his kidneys went. The parents had a ginger tom that died at about two who used to hang out with a tabby. When the ginger tom died his mate moved in and never left. Turned out he was a stray that was about four years old. Parents had him "knackered" but by the time he was four it was a bit late so he turned into a big cat and was hard as nails. Next doors Alsatian was scared to death of him!

The last two we've had came from Cat Rescue, the current one was 18 months old and was one of about four cats that belonged to an old lady who died. He's very much a people cat and runs the house - I'm here cat sitting while the parents are sunning themselves abroad!

Sorry for the bump,

My old cat died this morning aged 22.5.

Absolutely crushed, never thought it would hit me like this. Theres been a lot of good memories as i have had the cat from before I could remember as iam only 24.

Well she had a good life with a lot of fuss.

Sorry to hear about your cat.

I know its a totally different level but my mum lost her dog for day about a week ago and its amazing how attached you get to your pets. She was devistated.
