Free NewsGrp Downloading Reader?

alt.binz the old, free edition is rubbish, loads of stuff not working properly, paid for version is pretty good, but it's purely nzb leecher rather than browser. If you know what you're searching for there then it's the best thing in the world. alt.binz is way ahead of everything else for fast downloads, just type in what you're looking for in newleech search, grab and go.

Btw - the speed limit thing - most people make mistake setting limits in config, exiting and just waiting for limit to kick in - that's not how it works, you set limit of your connection in config, and then in normal window, down at the bottom, next to speed bar, far left, you'll see "No limit", just click and change it to 90%.

The best newsgroup browser is still NewsBinPro. Very easy, solid, standard controls, etc.

Worth it for 84p a month from my testing last night. I'm still using the trial, will register when it's up.

I didn't try sabnzbd but Alt.binz was, frankly, embarrassing.

I think you've missed my point as well, i wonder what you're actually downloading with NewsLeecher  and wonder if you paid for that.... Get me yet? I can't spell it out any more obvious.... :o

I'm not sure what your problem is, it seems you're only in this thread to point fingers.

It's no different to paying for Giganews or NewzBin access though really is it?

I switched from Newsleecher to Alt.Binz whenever my subscription expired and haven't looked back since. It's amazing!

From a newbies point of view, Besides say getting Alt.Binz what else is needed ??

(you pay a subscription for a news server, i mean is that how simple this whole system works ??)

Always wondered about this net stuff but it's like a minefield for a numpty newbie such as me

I came across this thread lastnight you see, So i tried Alt.Binz with a freebie public server and i got nowhere lol

Interested also before i shell out for progs etc that i don't need

Cheers

It's easy.

1. Fire up alt.binz, Newsleech tab. I'm searching for a Linux distro, so I put a minimum filesize of 600MB to filter out the crud. Big list pops up.

2. Right click a file, Add to queue ( paused ).

3. Download queue tab, expand and verify that it is what you want.

4. Unpause, to start downloading.

5. Log tab. You will probably see a lot of "Article missing" messages, with a free server. :p

It has been many moons since I last used alt.binz and its ilk. I go to newsleech.com, get .nzb files and upload them to a NAS box ( running hellanzb, 24/7 ). No need to use a noisy, power-hungry PC to do a job that can be done by a silent, 4W NAS box.

Cheers for reply :)

Forgot to say, Yeah can't find nothing with a free server lol, Thing is i dunno which one to subscribe to :(

Making more sense to me now ;)

What is the best/easiest to use newsreader for downloading files?

Thanks

I love newsleecher, but u have to pay for that - I don't want to pay

Thanks

GrabIt is nice, hasn't been updated for ages, and the developer is a little ignorant etc.

Apparently adding a scheduler in is just too... much... work. Idiot. Just wish it was open source would take me, say a minute?

Cheers for reply :)

Subscribe to a proper service, most lot are just resellers. Giganews unlimited, sorted, pull your thumb out and just pay up.
