I am using Media Portal on my HTPC and have the TV Series plugin which is really cool, so now want to rip my TV series from my DVDs onto the PC so I can watch them through the plugin.

It works by showing you the list of episodes, so when I rip them from the DVD I don't want the DVD as a .iso, I want the individual episodes as .avi files.

So Family Guy series 6 for example;

Family Guy - Season Six - Episode One.avi
Family Guy - Season Six - Episode Two.avi

...etc

Does anyone know the best software to do this and any procedure?

Thanks this is working fine. What settings should I use in AutoGK to get the absolute best output? I want the episodes to be the same quality as the DVD, I'm not bothered about their size so don't need to compress.

I am using Target Quality 100% under Select Output Size - is this the best way to get the best quality?

If you don't care about the output size, check out DVD Shrinker v3.2. You can make an individual .iso file for each episode and this method is A LOT quicker than converting the episodes to another format. The quality vs. size is better too. :)

Just finished ripping my first test episode using AutoGK method. I used 100% quality and these are the details of the file that came out;

Episode duration - 00:20:55
Bit rate - 448 kbps
Dimensions - 720 x 544
Size - 348MB

The original was 4:3 source. It took around 40 mins all in all.

Just tested the quality here on my laptop, not sure what it will look like on my 42" plasma.

Will try the DVD Shrink method as a comparison, but I don't really want them in ISO format if I can help it because Media Portal handles them slightly differently (and not as well I don't think) to avi.
