I recently bought and fitted a new heatsink for my Asus A8NE mobo. The stuff it came with wasnt great, so I took it off and reapplied some new thermal bonding material.
I had to remove the gfx card, EVGA 8800GTS 320mb to do so. Once I put the card back in, all I got were 3 beeps from the mobo and no signal, even though the cooler on the gfx card was working, and the pc seemed to be booting up.
I dont have a spare gfx card to test the mobo, but I know its definitely not the card as I RMA'd it and it got returned saying it was fine.
Not sure what the next step is.
And yes, I did try refitting the card many times!

Only things I can think of are: re-check all components are fitted correctly and all power cables.
Possible try a CMOS reset if not done so already.
Try re-installing the old heatsink as the new one might be coursing the problems!

I had the new heatsink on there for some time and it was ok, but a little loose which is why I reapplied the thermal bonding pad.
How do I do a CMOS reset? Remove the battery?

There should be a jumper on the motherboard around were the battery (hopefully) is.

If not remove the battery for 10mins that should do the trick.

It basicly resets all information in the BIOS to default, when removing your heatsink you could off upset something on your board, it may or may not work, but every little helps.

Do I take the jumper off then turn the machine on? Sorry, I am a n00b :(

Don't worry :), just checked the manual, move the jumper to pins 2 & 3, remove the battery for approx 10 seconds, reinsert the battery and move the jumper back to 1 & 2. Do this with the pc unplugged from the mains.

Restart your pc, you may need to reconfigure any raid options and voltages and memory timmings.

If that fails not sure what else to suggest, try removing your ram and test one stick at a time, or test ant parts in a friends machine!

Done that, still nothing, but been looking on the net and it seems that the beeps my mobo is making means that the pci-e port is borked :(

Luckily a S939 nforce4 mobo is cheap as chips these days second hand :)

Or it could be a good time to upgrade........

Bugger :( - (I assume one can say that!)

Upgarde path sounds a good idea :D, not trying to spend your money or anything!!!

Guess I should go for it whilst I have the chance :D Im thinking of getting another S939 board and building an HTPC, then using the case, RAM, GFX HDD etc to power a C2D build.

Just a thought before you go down the upgrade path, the 8800 series require a power connector on the card for it to work, have you connected this, if so has your PSU got another connector you can try.

Yes it was connected and it was powering the cooler, so I ruled that out as a problem. PSU only has 1 connector though so no chance of being able to test another connector.
