Xigmatek S1283

Yes, and yes. very much so.

and it comes with thermal paste.

However the OCZ Vendetta 2 is significantly better...although it is also a bit more expensive I think.

mine came with a tiny tube of paste (but i used as5) and yes, even at full its a lot quieter than a freezer 7, not to mention better cooling.

perhaps mine isn't seated properly then - it was a PITA to install I have to say

I read others on this forum who had swapped between a Freezer and the S1283 with no difference in temps too

QC differences perhaps ?

The pushpin method by default connection to a motherboard is not ideal for this cooler in intel mode (obstruction by fan after fitting will unable the user to see if the pushpins have come undone without taking motherboard out from case). Obtain a kit to connect the S1283 via the backplate method , this may help , it certainly did with mine.

I also have one of these on the way to replace an AC Freezer 7 Pro - I'm interested to see the temperature difference.

I was unaware that was a proper mounting kit for it though - is that a Xigmatex product or a third party kit? I may get one if the default installation isn't satisfactory.

Installing the crossbow, (didnt know that what it was called) is pretty simple, stick the back plate to mobo (self adhesive), allign screw holes, then bolt them on . The default Pushpins attachment are not a good design if you ask me, but for some coolers they are fine, not the S1283

ps should you get a positive "click" when push-pins are home ?

I did with both Freezer 7 Pros I owned, but did not with a Scythe Mine I had or the S1283 :(

It's a xigamtek kit called the crossbow. I just fitted one yesterday to my new P5Q Deluxe board.

Thanks for that. I've now got one of these coming too.

Having just signed up for the OcUK folding team, my CPU is now at 100% whenever the PC is on - the AC Freezer 7 Pro is a noisy little beastie when it spins up to 100% so I'm hoping the Xigmatek will be at least a little quieter. Recently I've found myself turning on my second PC in preference as its watercooling is so much quieter than the ACF7 Pro.

The Xigmatek will hopefully see me through until I decide which case I move my main machine to for WC and whether I'm waiting for Nehalem to hit the mainstream first or not.

The xigmatech does seem quite light so the pushpins are not too bad. ( I cant trust that they will never pop out though ;) ) So backplate is probably ideal to be 100% sure it wont drop off. Im using pushpins and temps are not to bad. Highest ive seen temps is 65 deg on a uk sunny day using intel tat tool, 62 deg with prime95 for a few hours. This is with Q6600cpu at 3.6g so im happy that it was a good price/performance cooler. fan is always in pwm mode (900-1150rpm )so no idea what top speed is like. Its never made a lot of noise.

I've just replaced my Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro with the Xigmatek S1283 + Crossbow mounting kit. So for the benefit of the OP (if they're still interested) or anyone searching, here's what I found.

1. Definitely quieter than an AC F7 Pro.
2. Reduced my Q6600 fully loaded temps by around 10C - quite a surprise, I wasn't expecting that much.
3. The spoiler thing looked like it might not sit securely so I left it off - don't want to risk stray metal items dropping onto another component.
4. Don't know about anyone else, but I found installing the fan with the anti-vibration rubber mounts an almighty pain. Horrible system.

Well worth the money and time though.

The spoiler thing, i personally think is abit of a gimmick, but if your really interested when pushing a lot of air throught it cools the stuff behind the heatsink as it directs the air, at low speeds i dont think it does that much. Personal preference, but i would leave it off.
I thought the anti vibration clip type things where easy to use and place in, 30 second job really.

Just me then :) First of all, they didn't want to go through the fan (I used the supplied one) and then, in my case at least, it was hard to get at the lower corners of the fan to secure them to the heatsink once the sink was mounted on the board in the case.

Still, job done and it will probably stay there until my next major upgrade so it won't need doing again.
