Lo all,

this one has me confused alright, one of our users has done something so every icon has blue around it, now i've looked online for some solutions. Here is what i've found:

1) Right click on my computer, properties, advance, performance settings, and tick "use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop"

2)Right click on my desktop, arrange items by, tick "lock web items on desktop"

Both work on my machine but not on this machine, i've tried standard themes, new backgrounds, everything i can think of.

Has anyone got any other ideas, it's not a major thing but it's annoying the life out of me.

Damn you windows, damn yoooooooooooo :p

do you use nlite?
did you remove the windows picture & fax viewer?

if so..

put shimgvw.dll in C:\windows\system32

and do...
start.
run

regsvr32 shimgvw.dll

(try the regsvr32 bit anyway even if you've not removed it)

right click desktop > proprties>settings

what Colour Quality do you have?

IIRC, Icon drop shadows only work with 32bit colour..

Thanks for the input lads, keep em coming. It's xp with 32bit colour, dont use nlite and as far as i know the picture viewer is still there.

I'll give them a go in a little bit

Right Click "My Computer" > properties > advanced > performance settings > tick "Use drop shadows for icons on the desktop"

IAmATeaf: I'll try this now and report back..

Tell me more about offline files, i dont remember reading about icons turning blue when you had it running

wow, still not working, did you try all suggestions above?

create a new user account and see if it does it from there..

Yeah i know it's a right pain in the *** :) The only one i havent tried is your suggestion about the dll.

I could create a new user account, but then i'd have to go there as it's a remote site lol

Lets see if IAmATeaf suggestion has any effects

regsvr32 is for re-registering dll's

doing it to say a virus dll would be bad, but it's fine to do it for a windows one :) (ms recommend using it for fixing certain things)

shimgvw.dll is the windows picture & fax viewer (but also controls the desktop icon transparency)
