Somewhere in the middle.
I bought it, played a couple of weeks, Liked some aspects of it, but couldnt handle the crap itemisation and clunkyness.

I get the impression players dropped like flies after the free month.

Lets see how accurate that is.

Say how long you lasted, or if you are still there :)

I also cancelled, the game was pretty fun and I had loads of fun running around ganking everything I could see. But just didn't really grab me, and there didn't seem like there was much to do in the end-game.

I could see the way it was going in beta, so I never even bothered with it at release, so I guess technically I lasted 0 days :)

I think somewhere on these forums (probably in a thread with Teki187 as we talked about it a fair bit) I predicted during beta that it would sell really well at first due to the awesome aesthetics, but that the subscriptions would drop off very fast indeed , after maybe just a few months as people realised what state the game was in, and that maybe by the end of the first year it would end with a million subscriptions.

Looks like I was rather out with my million subscriptions by the end of the year prediction (though time will tell yet), but looks like I was spot on with my huge initial sales but rapid drop off prediction.

Agree with the above pretty much.

Had great potential, they just never capitalised on it.

Never even bothered buying the game.

A pity too, really the genre could have done with more competition and a bit of a shakeup. As it stands now, I think the genre will go on being somewhat stale for several more years.

I'm still subbed to it with a mate. So far we're enjoying it...just got to the second city which is very impressive in scale and appearance.

Couple of issues I have is that the abilities you have are too similar, there's nothing to seperate them. Pretty much boils down to "2 sec cast, does x damage" or "1 sec cast, does x damage over x seconds". In WoW, you had very clear, very different abilities. They all feel very similar in AoC.

Lastly, appearance. A level 80 doesn't really look much different to a level10. In other MMORPG's, you see a high level with some chunky armour, glowing sword, and it looks like a high level. In AoC, you can barely tell.

Oh yeah, and some of the quests are unbelievable grinds. I can manage "Kill <boss>" or "Collect <name of item> from <instance>" but being presented with a quest to kill FIFTY enemies...just...yawn. Too many.

Oh, and definate last one - Epic instances. Stupidly unbalanced. Drops are rubbish and the enemies have massive HP.

I really do think it has promise, I just hope they can survive long enough to implement what they hope to. Servers do generally feel quite busy, so I think they're doing ok.

i still play but server population is a big issue, as one of only 3 medium-large guilds we have been asking for server merge or something as there are hardly any people around

Played for 3 weeks.. Got to level 80 (imba priest of mitra aoe grinding in kheshata *** - I assume they are nerfed now).

There was nothing to do at 80. The itemisation as said above was poor. It didnt matter what gear i wore, the difference was so minimal..

While I have to admit the aoe grinding was fun to start it got dull fast and grinding the last 10 levels because there werent anywhere near enough quests was boring :) (level 60-70 was similar, infact you HAD to grind once you reached 40).

Bugs were ridiculous, being unable to do certain quests was annoying. Sharing instances (cistern or whatever its called) was also annoying when you were trying to do the quests.

Couldnt even help people in instances at level 80 as a level 50 boss could destroy me in 10 seconds..

The fact that they only beta tested the game to level 20 was very obvious really :)

quit because it never "felt" like an mmorpg... I like community and PVP in that order. So if no community feel no point in PVP for me personally

Quit about 5 days after install

Levelled an assasin and a ToS to 47 each and lost all interest after they nerfed grey elite mobs. I was happily solo farming sanctum for some better armour hurting no one and they cracked the nerf hammer HARD.

To be honest ive found no real intest to go back to it at all... a major let down, and all due to idiotic patches that "fix" things that dont need touching and totally ingoring the major bugs half the time.

A great potential let down by moronic devs.

( after playing anarchy online for 5 years and seeing what they did to that game i should have known better from Funcom  )

Done the free month then that was me done, i too got to level 57 before the plug was pulled.

Pretty much the same reasons as everyone else, although i do have the intention of checking it out again in six months time. Actually looking at various forum posts around the net i think i will make that a year judging by the patch disasters .... if the game is still around by then.

I cancelled yesterday. The main issues for me were the ingame items and armor. Whether you were level 80 or 10 you looked the same and the item stats were dreadful !! I liked the combat system though
