Dumbbell/Barbell presses

My flat DB press is now up to 12x30KG - pretty happy with this :D

Going to try hit 5x37.5KG after next week.

Floating around 64KG bodyweight I think, will check in the morning.

Do you let the DB's meet at the top? How low are you going with them? I see so many variations on form in the gym, mostly with the simple aim of lifting more weight which is seen by many as the principle objective, when actually, it's to work the muscles. Just interested in your current form.

It would only make you look more gay than you look already ;]
:( I've had enough of the insults, I'm off to powder my nose.

Low enough to get a good stretch, not too far as to risk a shoulder injury.

No I don't touch the DBs together at the top, there really is very little point in that. Infact, if you're training chest you could even stop slightly before you get to lockout, so the strain is kept on.

Thanks for the tip Wardie but it was your form I was interested in! :)

Ed, the form nazi :D
Weight precedes form in most cases. It's a real bad habit. Just checking... :)

I do it the same as Wardie. Also, my hands are slight angled in which I find hits the chest more.

Dudes while we are at it, can anyone reccoment a Bench for home use? like many im only really doing weights for fitness/weightloss etc etc just a simple compact bench will do me, is it worth getting one with a preacher curl attachment?

Im wary of going for a cheapy from argos (they do one for £30) but then i dont want to spend a fortune either!

Preacher curl is useless. I got a good Weider bench from Argos a few years ago, has stood upto 7 years of abuse. I think it cost around £70.

I love preachers they get the peaks nice and tight - though there is snow settling on them now.

However they do destroy my wrists/forearms a little.

I do DBs without touching the top a sor of Y form so to speak and don't lock out which really kills. I tend to lock out more with the BB with heavy weights, but on things like 100kg it's easier to keep strain on.

I struggle on incline though more than on decline.

Well of course, everyone is stronger on decline - it should always be heavier than flat/incline :D

You're a beast anyways FF, my goal is a 100KG bench :F

I might try get 100 for a 1RM at the end of my 5x5, for the sheer hilarity.

lol @ beast comment! I'm lovely though! :(

It's always good to safely push yourself I just love the rush I get after a proper repping session to try some 1RMs. My target is to rep 140 on BB and to easily manage 5x12 on 40Kg DBs. Getting there... but it'll take a while!

I'm struggling on incline though - I really want to do 100kg, but I just can't seem to push it through :/

msm that vid is pretty good I like his way of doing pulldowns, just sitting in the chair and trying it you can feel it does work a bit lower than usual!

Think ill implement that into my routine, I already do the widegrip pulldowns/low cable rows/db rows, but ill change my method to that! Really does look quite brutal.

what vid? am i missing something?

also, Rich, do i recognise those DBs? hehe
i loved using the plate loaded lat pull down station in there :/

preacher curl is useless?
what makes you say that?

Because I think doing something that is such a pure isolation exercise is useless for 99% of people on this forum (there are a few advanced trainers who it might be useful for). I think direct bicep work is unnecessary for a lot of people.

It's ideal for all 16-19 year olds. All they need then is a mirror, some Kylie on the stereo and a tight t-shirt.

Sorted.

Isolation isn't useless as there are always conditions which warrant it. People working through injury and can't stress with certain compounds almost exclusively have to work around it using isolations. I'm only 4 weeks on from knee surgery and I'm back in the gym doing leg extensions. I won't be DL'ing or squatting for several months yet.

I do a heavy week of intense compound exercises, but I like to back those up with isolation exercises. As a result it's brought me some much better results. I really think isolation exercises for the serious bodybuilders on this forum are essential. They are not my primary exercise, but I do do them and they are important for developing my physique.

unnecessary? doing what has been shown to be the best exercise in terms of muscle fibre stimulation is a bad thing?
not jsut for the biceps, but also for the forearms and the knock on effect of making the back exercises more effective
