Anyone with a 48xx and Vista 64?

this is a very common problem for vista x64/dual screen users (been ongoing for months well before 4800/cat 8.7s). no sign of any fix coming anytime soon either. :( but i haven't really heard of any problems using single screen......

I have dual screen too, and understand that games disable aero when they run, yet disabling it altogether works :/

People have tried disabling the second monitor aswell and that still doesnt work, maybe a reinstall with just one monitor may fix the issue? Seems a bit much. I'll just stick to no aero when I wanna play games, much easier :D

I had to resort to remove the cable physically from the card on the 2nd monitor, got too fed up with this problem occuring and crashing the machine in the middle of 2d desktop work.

It has been a problem with vista under dual monitor setups since first installing it, can happen whilst gaming, regular apps or watching movies, quite random. I believe nvidia users have also had this problem so its seems to be a Vista issue.

With only 1 monitor plugged in I've never had a crash.

I've not had it happen with a 8800GTX, 9800GX2, GTX 280, or even a crappy 8500GT with Vista SP1 and dual screens.

It's only been happening with ATI.

And just tried one monitor and no help. But disabling Aero stops it happening on the desktop, but still happens in games...

If this still happens when i get the X2, then **** ATI. I'll have to go back to a 280.

I keep getting a black screen for a couple of seconds with this 4870 on Vista 64-Bit, then when it recovers i get the old "Display driver stopped responding" message.

This mostly happens with games, but it's even happened on the desktop when idle.

Temps are fine, around 60c. I've tried using 8.7 BETA and 8.7 Final drivers, Tried just installing the Display driver, no CCC. Didn't help. Even done a new Vista install, with nothing else installed but the updates, SP1, and latest DirectX version, but it still happened.

Also tried underclocking the card and using a diff card BIOS. Still didn't help.

Also used a MultiMeter to measure voltage on the cards power connectors while a game was running, no problems there.

Other graphics cards are fine in the same system.

Does anyone else get these problems? it looks as if it's the drivers...
Exactly the same happens to me, frankly i'm not really impressed at this card so far :/

4850 with dual monitors on Vista 64, no problems here with either 8.6 Hotfix or 8.7 Final (apart from the 8.7`s being crap)

Getting this occasionally here. 4870 with Vista 64 and dual monitors. Annoying.

Same setup here, it really sucks :/ So much for all the idiots in here talking about semi-perfect AMD drivers and bashing Nvidia, never had a problem on any of my Nvidia cards.

Same problem even get a mini dump at times as it cant recover and just keeps flashing black then to desktop.Do have duel but ones a TV and i disabled it and it still happened. Now since i turned aero of seems to have gone.So far , also had no problems with 8.6 hotfix so would seem to me aero/8.7/Vista x64 problem.

these cards suck tbh... ati banging out cards that do good fps but run like crap in reality choppy in games even @ 60fps and black/blue screen city drivers

Please :o. You're making yourself look silly now.

Cupra, stop posting random pieces of junk then not replying as you've done in another thread regarding ATI cards. Some people to date have problems with G80 and Vista concerning drivers and this card is nearly 2 years old.

Go play with your GTX 280 or whatever Nvidia card you have and stop trolling the forums as it's pathetic.

you what? stop trolling every ati 4xxx related thread.

Anyway 8.7's here on vista x64 and no problems. I did have problems installing them though even on fresh install (driver wouldn't load up after restart), dloaded the driver package and ccc seperately and that sorted it (instead of the all in one). May be worth uninstalling, cleaning and then trying that.

Aye, he's a bit of an Nvidiot if you ask me .

My m8 has Crossfire 4870s on a DFI X48 running Vista 64bit with a single screen and has had no issues at all except when SP1 wasn't installed properly, since then it's been great.

This is gonna hurt to say cause i got one just yesterday and i have really been looking forward to it, but i'm poised to agree. So far i've been plauged by crashes and my Crysis FPS is significantly DOWN, not up, compared to my old 8800GTS, not too encouraging.
