LONDON (Reuters) - Embaressed by yor spelling? Never you mind.

Fed up with his students' complete inability to spell common English correctly, a British academic has suggested it may be time to accept "variant spellings" as legitimate.

Rather than grammarians getting in a huff about "argument" being spelled "arguement" or "opportunity" as "opertunity," why not accept anything that's phonetically (fonetickly anyone?) correct as long as it can be understood?...

Who else thinks this is just a silly idea?
I reckon variant spelling is fine on emails and instant messages etc but accepting it as normal in schools and academic materials handed in by students is a silly move!

Imagine when we’re all older and young people are speaking txt, what will txt messages be like then?!

The article reminds me of Engrish:

See! Even the Japanese can spell words correctly even if it is hilariously structured at times :p

Agreed yours is better MRK, you can see the time and effort you put into posting extra piccies and stuff.

Doesn't negate the fact that you are a double posting whore trying to steal someone else's thunder! :D

It's annoying when that happens. You seemed to put some effort in the OP as well hehe.

It's sometimes why the search function can't work if e.g. people use rubbish thread titles /off topic

Searching for "spelling" brings up the original thread as the 4th result.

use the search button before you post...

Stop trying to take credit for things you didn't manage to plagiarise from the Internet first :)

Also, get back to work you damn slacker.

Where did I say that this specific thread was hard to find? I said that sometimes threads can be hard to find with vague thread titles. Re-read what somebody has said before you post...

I wasn't saying what you said was wrong, I was just pointing out that the OP clearly didn't make a search. Maybe you should have thought more about what I was saying, re-reading my post perhaps?

You clearly didn't point out that the OP should have made a search, thought it was aimed at myself. No worries.

I was talking totally out of topic in hand and in a general sense why searching doesn't always provide you with a previously made thread on an identical subject.
