This conflict has been brewing for a long time. Remember the energy row between Russia and Georgia a couple years ago? It's all part of the same thing.

I wish people would stop assuming that the current round of fighting between South Ossetia and Georgia is only the last couple of days :mad:, it's been happening for a couple of weeks now with clashes occuring on and off between Ossetians and Georgians. It's only once Georgia moved to threaten Tskhinvali (apparently after agreeing a ceasfeire with S Ossetia) that the Russians (and Abkhazians the other break away Georgian region) have piled in with direct action/aid.

All sides are at fault here and need to step back and start talking otherwise and already unstable region will go bang in a very big way.

Technically it wasn't awarded to Nazi Germany, the location was decided before Hitler was in power.

However, this doesn't mean the '36 Olympics shouldn't have been boycotted. Lots of people were opposed to Germany hosting the event, as are people now with China.

Just because it has been awarded to China doesn't mean we should support it.

BBC News on the Radio and AGAIN the Olympics are a higher priority than this.

In what sort of crap world are a bunch of people running around a track more important than a war between a small country and one of the worlds superpowers?

I don't even bring Hitler into the argument. The media situation is relevant to the attack therefore the Olympics is inextricably linked to the situation in one sense.

Glad you could come up with a decent argument though, when are you next on Question Time?

Sorry I've just read back what I wrote in reply to you and it does come across as a bit pompous which I didn't mean it to be :o

I try to make sure I read what's going on around the world on a daily basis, partly because it interests me but also because I think our news agencies have an over inflated view of this countries place in the world and skews the reporting of so called World events accordingly.

To me what is happening in my City/Town is just as important as what is happening in Ecuador or Fiji because in some form or other they will cause events on large or small scale that affect my life the World around me (Sorry a bit pompous again)
