I got a text from Vodafone today saying that they are changing some of their prices, They have increased to call charges to Premium rate numbers 0845, 0844 ect, and they they are increasing their minimum charge.

Becase of this increase am i able to cancel my contract?

In the past, people on other carriers have only been able to cancel if they can show that the changes to the T&C directly affects them.

So if for example you call a lot of premium rate numbers, or even just a few now and again this could well be proof enough.
If however you've never called a premium rate number from your mobile then the chances are you wont be able to.

Sorry but anyone who rings an 0800/0845/0870/premium number on a mobile is a bit daft.
Mobile phone companies (I'm with vodafone and not had a text mind) rip you off on any of the cheaper numbers for landlines unless it starts 01xx. Just use a house phone it will work out cheaper.

As to contract, probably not I think its covered in the terms and conditions, if it was a change to your monthly payments within your 12/18 then probably yes.

The normal clause is increasing your bill by greater than the RPI (or similar), so it depends whether you have been using the service or not. Speak to Vodaphone and they should be able to tell you.

I had a text from them today actually - I thought it was a wind up! It said something like, 'your calls are going up, ring this 4 digit number for more info'

So it's true then...

I had one too, be interesting to see what they say, let us know.

As I could do with an excuse to get rid of them, think they are the worse provider on the face of the earth. Just my opinion :)

Still no responce to my email yet.

I tried phoning but the person on the end of the line was just ignorant and didnt know what he was talking about.

usually you can escape a contract if there is a change in the terms and conditions, in particular if you can show that it puts you at a material disadvantage.

Your contract with vodafone, might cover this, but if the disadvantage is great enough then their clause may not even apply

A little updated:

I sent in a formal cancelation letter to Vadafone today.

I also thought i would give it another shot on the phone.

I called them and got through to a gentleman who wasent just a script kiddie, I told him why i wanted to cancel, Quoted their T&c's and told him that my prices would increase by more than 10%.

He made me hold the line for a few minutes while he checked my bill and consulted the manager.

He then proceeded to tell me that he look throught my bill and I had not called any Premium rate numbers Except 11818, I told him I had, He said i havent.

I then looked through my last 3 bills from them and noted every call i made including prices and call times.

I called them back and got through to a woman, I told him about the call earlier and quoted to her every single call i had made to the premim rate numbers, She asked me to hold for one minute while she consulted with her manager.

Fast forward one minute, she finally came back, her manager told her that my bills wont increase by 10%, I told her "do you want to sit and do the calculations right now?", She said "its no use they wont increase by more than 10%".

I said "right, lets take me last call", which was £1.14, I asked her "what is 10% of £1.14", she paused for a second and didnt reply, I said "ok ill do it for you its £0.114", I then said The call lasted 9 minuted exactly, I then asked her "what the call would cost with the new prices", she paused for a bit and didnt answer, I said0 "ill answer for you its £1.80", I then asked her if thats more or less than 10%, she just said "ill put you onto my manager".

After another few minutes on hold, the manager spoke, but according to her, Ofcom advised Vodafone to increase their prices for premium rate numbers and I cant cancel becuase of that, I told her that if i phoned Ofcom to verify that, would they? she just replied with "no they would ehhhh".

At that point I said that im going to do all communication in writing rather than talk to people who dont know what their talking about.

From what I've got out of them, it's 10% of your total bill.
IE. For a £35 bill, this means you'd need a £3.50 increase solely from these price changes.

You appear to have gotten yourself a little confused. The T+C's state if your bills increase by 10% or more due to changes you can cancel your contract. As far as i'm aware the increase in charges to call these numbers is an extra 10p per minute? You made approx 30 minutes of calls to these numbers which would be approx and extra £3 of charges. If your bill is normally £30 or less a month than it would look like you can cancel going by your usage, if not tough

I received this Reply from Vodafone:

Good evening Mr. Mcluckie,

Thank you for contacting Vodafone Customer Services regarding the increase to call charges.

I understand that according to your usage you are sure that due to the proposed changes to call charges to the premium rate numbers.

I know that you know that your cost will increase by 33% so that you need not worry as we will cancel your contract without you having to pay any early cancellation fee.

However, you will first examine you September bill and compare it with your past months' usage. You will have to get back to us after your September bill has been received.

I’m glad to have helped you and if you need me, please feel free to get in touch at any time and I'll do my very best to help.

Kind Regards,

Sana Qadri

i find vodafone very good, I will not ring premium numbers from my mobile from now on then, ill use works phone instead :o)

I have always had excellent customer service from them, free handset worth in excess of £500 and i only pay £20 a month, which includes rollover minutes, stop the clock, free texts, vodafone passport and 50% extra minutes.

Then i asked for a second phone, and managed to get another free £500 handset on £30 a month with more minutes.

Have a lot of respect for them,

vodafone lost me as a customer last year.

rang up said i needed an unlimited data bundle for a month. they said it would be 30 quid.

i used for the month then bill came in at £240. Rang them up and the rep forgot to tell me about the 75meg cap.

my experiance of their customer services is pap.

I heard they were losing 1000 customers a day last year.
