Help me get my Q6600 to 3.8ghz on air!

Currently running at 3.6ghz with 1.38 in the bios, if I put it to 3.8ghz it boots but then the system freezes? Ram set to 1:1 standard volts

I have put 1.5 in the bios and still boots but hangs?

Temps are approx 40 - 44 idle at 3.8ghz

I have a Gigabyte 965P DS3 v3.3 board, maybe my north bridge is too hot?

Surely being at 3.6ghz with 1.38 in the bios I'd be able to go higher as I have lots left in volts? Temps aren't a worry?

This was w3bbo's golden stepping 4ghz chip before I'm happy with 3.6ghz but interested in getting to 3.8 perhaps? I have a Tuniq 120 cooler with a Sharkoon Silent Eagle 2000 fan inside?

Any help advise would be great ;)

Thanks

Thats getting a little high for air IMO - esp considering we KNOW that it will do 4Ghz. It sounds like something else is holding you back. Ram?

See if it will boot and load with 1.55V,if not then try 1.575 and so on.
I could put more on I suppose

RAM can and does do 1000mhz but I put it back to 1:1 (800mhz) to push the chip up more? Still nothing

I wouldn't be suprised if thats as far as it'll go on that mobo mate, 965 chipsets arn't known to be great clockers of quads.

I'd be looking at a p35 or better to try and achieve w3bbo's clocks.

What are you north bridge voltages, load temps etc ... I think you need Mr Cob.

I think I notch it up to +1 in the bios, actually I'm sure I did

How can I get my north bridge temps?

Hmm I was thinking that tbh not going to bother with another board I think too much hassle for a few hundred mhz :)

If you've no luck with both NB and FSB Term voltages on their max then it'll be the chipset.

Should have no issues pushing the NB voltage as far as it will go (certainly as far as +3 will be fine).

That's a cracking clock for a Quad on a 965 chipset board. My old 965P DS3P would only get my quad to 3Ghz stable. Anything past that and it kept failing prime or crashing. To be honest 200mhz is not going to make any difference at all. You could try directing a fan at the chipset heatsink. I know for a fact they get very hot.

Will give that a go

Yeah I know I will be happy with 3.6 if thats all thats there but I'd like to make sure :D

After all this is Overclockers.co.uk :) heh

Waste of a 4Ghz quad if you ask me running it on that board

400mhz isn't the end of the world if I'm at 3.6ghz now?

Also I had no plans to dump the e6600 for a quad when I got this board second hand in MM, coupled with the fact I knew nothing of the board holding the chip back im not too bothered about it ;)

200 behind you and I'm on air...

What FSBs are you running or have you tried? My P965 DS3P v2.0 will do 400MHz but anything over that and things get very flakey. So I run my Q6600 at 400, 1.31 vcore in the BIOS and +1 for the NB.
