When i get up to around 80 in my Leon i start to get vibration from the steering wheel, its not heriffic but its very annoying. Its started ever since i had 4 new tyres put on. I have just left it for so long i cant really go back to the garage i got them fitted as it was a back street. Is this something that can be fixed with getting them aligned? Do i need the 4 wheel lazer alignment as it seems quite expensive? or will simple tracking sort this?

It's a quick and simple thing, it should be done as standard when fitting new tyres at all garages. If you were to take your car to kwik fit, national tyres or pro tyre, they would be able to balance them for you fairly cheaply i'd imagine.

That is if it's the balance thing though.

Get your wheels balanced, should be done for max £5 a corner, I get mine done at costco as they seem to have decent machines and the do the lot for just under a tenner, and there is lots to do while waiting.

just bought a pug 306 dturbo and all the way back it was vibrateing terribly so phoned up garage and got new tires done because they was bald on the insides and wasnt balanced... now its all done its GREAT :D. Costs - Wheel Balances - £4 per tyre

I have the same with my car but can't be bothered to get it sorted atm. It happens at indicated 70 so I just cruise along at indicated 80, no vibration ;)

If they were worn on one side I'd get the tracking checked.

Both my cars have a bit of steering wheel wobble when braking from 60 or 70....wheel balance or brake issue? They are both more than 10 years old.

I think it could be either. If the wheels aren't balanced properly you'll get the wobble and if the discs are warped you'll also get it... I think!

I read somewhere it could be from a previous owner "sitting on the brakes" as they are both autos....warped discs you say? I'm planning on taking the newer acquisition in for a service soon so I should get that looked at. The other one is up for sale though.
