Biggest news of pre-season so far, Rangers captain Barry Ferguson out for 3-4 months.

RANGERS have been rocked by the news that skipper Barry Ferguson will miss the crucial early part of the new campaign.

Ferguson has been struck down with an ankle problem and the fear is that he will be out of action for three to four months.

The captain will not travel to Holland on Saturday when Rangers spend a week training and playing three matches across the border in Germany.

He will remain at Murray Park for treatment and clearly it is a huge blow to Walter Smith's plans.

The injury was discovered in the early part of this week and checks revealed that Ferguson has a problem.

May well loosen the purse strings for Davis.

That is good news IMO. I'm not saying Barry is a bad player, but we build our team around him every week and we need to be forced into considering other options. We've now got a few weeks to make a couple of signings to allow the restructure.

Had to say I can't see how Falkirk got beat today - they had the majority of posession and controlled the play from midfield. They NEED a striker!

It was a dour game nonetheless - was looking forward to the start of the season and even renewed my setanta subscription with excitement.

With the possible exception of the falkirk wingers runs and their midfield passing and controlling the ball, there was nothing exciting to speak of.

I was quietly confident of getting a result at Celtic Park tomorrow, but St Mirren have our three most influential players out for the game, Will Haining, Andy Dorman and Craig Dargo, i can see us getting tanked 4 or 5 nil now.

Your team are playing very well today. Passing it better than Celtic and holding onto the ball when they get it. You have to think that Celtic will score eventually, but you never know.

Really enjoying the celtic/saints game although I would love the tic to score a goal or two but its a very enjoyable, open game. Lot of nifty wee bits of skill on display from Brown and McGeady

Well, very disapointing, cheated by the referee Eddie Smith once again, thats two games in a row he has handed Celtic the game and cost saints 2 points.

You really have to wonder why we even bother playing the old firm, they have better players, more money and biased refs on their side. It wouldnt even have been so bad had he not sent off Haining, our most important player out of next weeks game now.

Vinegar of Hasslebank is a diving B as well.

Have to agree that the ref had a bad game there Mark - your side put up a great fight and deserved more out of the game. Kudos!

Actually thought the first penalty shout that DIDN'T get given had more of a resemblance to a penalty than the one that was.

Memmet (sp) up front was a real handful and your midfield is very strong and dedicated. Both of the old firm deserved to draw at best. difference between yourselves and Falkirk IMHO is that you have a tenacious striker up front who looks like he can convert given the chance

The first one i thought was a penalty, would have had no complaints if that had been given, i think Smith thought he would make amends, as i said, if he hadnt sent off Haining, it wouldnt have been so bad, we are so solid with him playing, we rarely lose a goal, unfortunately without him, we leak like a sieve.

Oh we're using this thread are we :p

What i said in the other thread about today........

The Buddies were robbed. Was as light a penalty as you'll ever see, minimal contact. Celtic couldn't have argued if they'd came away with a draw today. Poor display, McGeady never showed up and the team performance was very sloppy all round.

I was actually hoping the Buddies scored, was looking for a camera zoom in to Michelle Marsh if she was in the crowd! :D

I thought it was a stonewall penalty the first time I saw it. On seeing the replay it didn't look like a pen though. Looked like a 50/50 tussle and a penalty and sending off was very harsh on St Mirren.

I thought the penalty shout 5 minutes earlier was a penalty though.

As for the decision last year. It looked like an obvious foul to me. It was a foul given 35 yards from goal for your defender barging Nakamura off the ball. It was only so controversial because Celtic had played poorly and the resulting goal by Nakamura from 35 yards gave them points which they didn't really deserve on the merit of the play. Was an obvious freekick though.

When St Mirren went down to 10 men today they became the better team. Hard one to take. To echo what Kenny said, I was secretly routing for St Mirren to score in the last 10 minutes. No more than they would have deserved.

From reading you are a Rangers supporter, you are not top of the league, Inverness Caley are. Rangers are 4th, still at least they are doing better than expected :p

Saints are playing pretty well, although i fear Celtic will get a late winner.

we were before every other game kicked off

celtic get another ref decision, by the same guy the gave them that "free kick" last season... but on to the decision today, he let JVOH get a shot in which could even have served as an advantage, but because he missed, he decided to give the penalty instead? I expect decisions to go both ways again for the old firm this season but they will not be as blatant as todays

Not a bad start for Rangers but as usual for Falkirk play some great football and end up getting beat.

Now if Hamilton and Dundee Utd draw tomorrow, that means that they will be favourites for the title;) as I think its something like the las six seasons the team that has drawn their opening fixture has went on to win the title.
