I don't see my name in the Single Machine folding list again![]()

Hadn't realized that you needed to ues a full core for the 4870, doing 1.9K now![]()

Sorry not sure how that happened - I probably missed a post somewhere unless you were on it before and were not producing for 5 weeks straight?
I've left a note for myself to add you for next week anyway - what hardware are you using?

It's all in the interest of science and it's very good to show that OcUK users are serious in serveral projects! Thanks for the news Rich.
At the moment I'm torn between folding and rosetta. My goal for f@h was to hit 3m points and a spot just inside the top 10. Realistically that's as far as I'm going to get with 2 PCs crunching and should be achievable in the next few months.
Tbh I've started to lose interest in folding over the last few months as the milestones and stomps get further apart. I know it's supposed to be about the science, but to be perfectly honest without the whole points/team/competition element I doubt I would be folding at all. I guess that's why rosetta has grabbed my attention. Dealing with the ever increasing cost and heat output of running an overclocked system at 100% 24/7 becomes less appealing when there is little sense of achievement in doing so. Unfortunately, folding doesn't offer me, personally, enough of a reward to continue for much longer.
With rosetta, if enough of us stick at it, we should be able to move the team forward considerably over the coming months, giving me back the sense of achievement that's currently lacking in folding.
For now I'll probably pinch 1 core of the quad from rosetta to fold on the 3850, giving roughly a 50/50 split between folding and rosetta. Once my goals have been achieved I shall probably be switching over 100% to rosetta.
Sorry guys![]()

In regards to rosetta I think the general consensus is to enjoy being a big fish in a little pond for a while.![]()
Are we doing good in Rosetta or? Can as well lend my CPU power to that project and keep using my GPU for f@h then.
In which case the 4870x2s will definitely be the way to go, but why not just get the card that produces the most PPD per $, something like the upcoming midend replacement for the 8800GT?The Rosetta project doesn't use GPU processing at present, so a good mix is Rosetta on the CPU with FAH on the GPU. I've some posts on the FAH forums where other users are experimenting with the same balance between BOINC and GPU folding. You may have to play around with forcing crunching onto different processors for some of this, though it appears to depend on which Operating System flavour you are using.
I expect that's how I will get back into folding myself (though I must admit 2 of my systems are still folding - I haven't gone completely over to Rosetta).![]()
I'm entertaining the thought of 5 9800GX2's on my farmed systems, with some other 9800 flavours - like GTX+'s and GT's - in some of the systems that see more normal use. It will be a couple of months till I make up my mind, so there is a possibility that the ATI clients will be producing better results by then.

How about some very small capacity SSDs for storage? It won't take long till those are relatively cheap?I thought the 9800GT was the die shrink of the 8800GT, so that is on my radar (as it's out already and OcUK has them on "This week Only"). But I will also have a target overall production that will also be a factor.
I will be doing some value analysis as I get closer to a purchase, taking into account the running costs as well (I already need armor plating in my meter cupboard, in case the spinning disk in the electric meter should fly off its bearings).
Last but no means least, I will have to factor in an OS license and new hard drives for the dedicated crunchers as the GPU client is Windows only at present. So Vista 64 and small low power SATA hard drives (2.5 in, but 7200 RPM) are on my shopping list as well.

Yeah we are indeed picking up, i suspect people getting back from vacations etc and maybe Rosetta adoption slowing down along with graphics upgrades will propel us right back up thereNow we are starting to kick some ass.
The numbers are looking remarkably better now the results are starting to come in and the day isn't over yet.
