3 years of pc gaming to catch up on...

Crysis
Orange Box (This is a must imo!)
- HL2 episodes. Quite short but class.
- Portal. A fantastic little game. Very clever.
- TF2. Superb multi-player game. My favourite game at the moment. (Got No.1 in PC Gamers top 100)
GRID for driving. More realistic than burnout, but not an out-and-out sim.
COD4, single player & multi-player are great
Oblivion is good fun as well. Quite a few mods to mess about with.

I dream about Portal, it came out of no-where and left me in awe :)

The Witcher is also worth looking at.

command and Conquer 3 is fun

Perimeter was superb, i finished it twice and bought the expansion and finished that too. Weird but brialliant when you get the hang of it

Obviously it depends what res you are running and what level (Low, med, high etc.) you are willing to set it at but yeh you should be fine on a med/high combination of settings.

scout the web for a crysis graphics set up guide (there are a few) if you wanna get the best visuals vs fps.

I don't mind gaming without the best settings, but I like to have my games looking pretty good.

Devil May Cry4
Sega Rally
Assassins Creed
Lost Planet: Colonies Edition
Resident Evil4 (make sure you patch it as it looks much better)
Lego Indiana Jones
Kane & Lynch: Dead Men
Gears Of War
Tomb Raider Legend
Tomb Raider Anniversary
Chronicles Of Riddick
Prey
Doom3 + Doom3: ROE
FEAR
Rainbow Six Vegas1
Outrun 2006
Stranglehold

All very playable and a lot better than the equivalent console version.

I have bioshock and the witcher sitting there unopened in their boxes ready to play on my new system next week, youve already got that on your list though!! its a wee bit old but if you havent played it, you should be able to pick up fable fairly cheaply

It's interesting you mention that a few of those are better than the console versions, Prey was god awful on 360...and i'll probably get a lot of flak for this...so was GOW, massively overrated game, would be willing to give it another shot on PC.

I did actually play a few of those, Doom 3 & Riddick...the latter being an underrated game but with fantastic story and gameplay.

This is the first time I've ever heard any one slagging off COD4. :o

It was a short game but I think it's one of the best shooters I have EVER played. Great gameplay and solid storyline.

definitely try Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines (fps rpg)

Gothic Universe (gothic 1,2,3)
Fable Lost Chapters
Jade Empire
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic (more fps really)
KOTOR 1+2
Hitman Triple Pack (fps stealth em up)
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (stealth em up)

Thats a bit further back to when I could actually game and they are all excellent games, Vampires Masquerade especially, i'm still to find another game like it.

Grid isn't as far fetched as Burnout but it's a pick up and play game :). No way it's a simulation game and will run great on your 8800GT :).

Ah fable...i've literally spent weeks of my life playing and replaying that game on the XBOX...I should put that in my all time favorites up top as it goes.

fable 2 is going to be the business, i just hope they havent been too over-zealous with the features, heres hoping it comes out on the PC!

I'm going to reiterate Bioshock-I only got it this week, and am somebody who normally drifts in and out of 2 or 3 games at a time, taking a couple of months to complete them all. I'm almost through Bioshock already, really grabbed my attention. Absolutely fantastic game!

Finally got my hands on a new pc, well I say new, it's second hand but it's new to me. My old spec was pitiful, 2.4ghz p4, 128mb 9800pro radeon and 1gb ddr ram. The last game I played when it came out new was HL2 and it struggled with that so after that, I never bothered with anything. So basically we're going back 3 and a half years and I need some recommendations. I've been browsing gaming review sites and don't really know what's what.

I love fps, rpg, racing (burnout ott style racing), never really got into strategy, hate sports...i'm a pretty generic gamer. All time favorite game is Deus Ex, seconded by Far Cry and maybe third KOTOR/Fable. So folks, go ahead and hit me with ideas, just got paid and have a bit of spare cash.

The list so far...

Call Of Duty 4
Mass Effect
Oblivion
Crysis
Company Of Heroes
Bioshock
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Call Of Juarez
Flatout
Supreme Commander
The Witcher
C&C 3
Devil May Cry 4
Assassins Creed
Lost Planet
RE4
Lego Indiana Jones
Kane & Lynch: Dead Men
Gears Of War
Prey
RS Vegas 1 & 2
Stranglehold

You DEFINETLY need to add Test Drive Unlimited to that list, worth buying a half decent wheel with pedals if you dont have one (Logitech G25 if you have a lot of extra cash)

excellent fun when cruising around online with other people, can get carried away for sure. best driving game to date in my eyes and wish they would release a second.
