I'm using my WHS properly now, and i'm centralizing my downloads. So far i've been using SABnzbd and i'm very very impressed with its lightweight operation and powerful featureset.
I've been using uTorrent a lot and although its doing its job OK, i feel its a likely clumsy (even installed as a service). The webUI is trying to be too clever, and also you can't auto unRAR/zip things you're downloading which i think is a bit of an oversight really...

Well I would guess it's quite a specific task you're trying to accomplish. For me uTorrent has always done a perfect job. Then again I've never tried operating it remotely (never knew I could). That could be why you're not getting much help. uTorrent has certainly been the cream of the torrent downloaders for the last year or so.

I agree how its a great desktop app, its just not really geared for server usage, so you think something/someone would fill the void, i can't be the only person trying this :p?

SABnzbd is a fabulous alternative to a fully fledged GUI usenet client.

I've centralised my downloads recently, I use Alt.binz (Usenet), Flashget/WinWGET (HTTP) and uTorrent.

I've just been using UltraVNC and accessing it all through remote access, it's not really necessary having it all web based if you're going to access the PC over the network anyway.

I guess if you're going to be accessing it from work etc. then web based download programs would be best.

I was just after an elegant solution, i definitely don't wan't to have to remote in to mess around with utorrent/alt.binz. Web solution is much easier, i almsot certainly have a browser open and i can just hit a bookmark and bang i'm there. Or as you say i can add things away from home too, its all much nicer, i'm just not a fan of how uTorrent do this. Its OK, but it could be much better (aftter using SABnzbd and seeing what it could be like!)

It is pretty good, but i wouldn't mind a simple HTML one as well (for mobile stuff). And niggling fact is it won't work with Opera, but i don't know why.... Also this doesn't solve my auto unraring/zipping problems either though, which i feel is a let down. I'll check out the alternatives now though :)

Ok that was painless, that thread is gold, i've got a mobile java version version (clunky, i'd rather plain html but i can't load the website for that one). And a modified version which plays ball with Opera. At least i'm getting somewhere :p Cheers!

The webUI is trying to be too clever,

No idea what you mean by this.

Edit: now seen the link posted above. Cheers that person!

and also you can't auto unRAR/zip things you're downloading which i think is a bit of an oversight really...

I'm no expert, but I wouldnt have though it was possible to look into a compressed file until you downloaded the whole file. Cant see any other torrent program offering this.

Edit: Ive got the wrong end of the stick again.

Maybe someone can correct me, but isnt the sole reason now you see torrents compressed is to try to stop files being added and changed by seeders up to no good?

There's also a Flash webUI if you search at the forums. For unpacking look for auto unopack, scene unpacker etc. Just be sure utorrent moves things to a completed directory or you'll have issues.

Nope, in fact a lot of torrents ar preferred uncompressed so people can see exactly what they're downloading. When you download a torrent the content/hashes etc. are checked to ensure you're downloading the original content of the torrent.

Some torrents are compressed, and it's a bit annoying having to wait for your files to unzip after they've downloaded, especially if it's big... so it's best to have the program do it for you as soon as the download is complete.
