Manchester United vs Portsmouth - Community Shield *SPOILERS*

Frazier Campbell is going to do really well for you lot isn't he? :( I can see it now.

Hopefully :)

Don't be too disheartened he did get you in the Prem in the first place :)

We may need him to as well, iam expecting the FA to hand out a 3 match ban for Tevez :/

Eeee, they're not "my" team, I've just gotten rather accustomed to following a team that's far easier and cheaper to follow live than Arsenal. Sometimes I worry if I've sold out my loyalties. :o

I'm partly annoyed cos I just don't want you lot having more good players. :p

Well at least you can go and see the Arse now without having to pay £9 pound a pint and have to listen to thick Southerners :D:p

I thought Scholes had a pretty good game today, hardly a bad pass and as usual kept the ball well. Think he had a 93% pass completion rate today, which is pretty bloody good.

Scholes hardly ever gives the ball away and can make some spectacular passes.
These are his strengths and were the case today.
However he sits very deep and can struggle to cope with high tempo games or to inject some pace/urgency into situations.
I don't think these were issues today, as we dominated possession in a one sided game and our inability to score was more down to a lack of a target man than anything he did or didn't do.
In other games we will need the energy and speed of an Anderson or Hargeves to take full advantage of our attacking options or to cope with better opposition middle men but I doubt they would have helped much today.

Anderson has had a hair cut! on another note after having time to digest the game and watch the highlights you have to say pompey were shocking opponents. They were so cautious, never really willing to go forward and when they did throw caution to the wind and attack they were just lacking in the final third. Crouch and defore getting little or no service, if I remember correctly tevez had over 50 touches of the ball compared to defoe who had 13. It was silly to sell muntari as they probably won't get anyone in who is as good if not better, without Rooney and Ronaldo United are sort of lacking up front. That's been well documented though over the last few months, it's imperative that Fergie brings in a top quality striker. United have had a good pre season, better opposition this year than last season, I think pompey will struggle however. The teams around them have brought in reinforcements, it's all well and good signing crouch but when he can't get the service then what's the point?

Frazier Campbell looked good when he came on, lots of effort and got into some good positions.

Fletcher is looking good, but I think this is his peak right now... he's not going to get any better.

Tevez was phenomenal, really eager, looking to get on the ball at every opportunity, inteligent and powerful desplay as well. He's looked great in the friendlies I've seen him play in, and continued that form into this game - he should have an absolute stormer of a season hopefully!

Van Der Superstar, could have sat on his arse for 80 minutes of todays game as he had very little to do bar the odd skyward ball and cross with Crouch 100+ yards away from the ball.

Nani... like I said earlier in the thread - he's really hot and cold. Unfortunately most players have hot and cold streaks that last for matches. His last for 10 to 20 minutes in a game. He's got moments of real skill at times, but he lacks composure at others. His attitude in general still needs work. One to watch in one or two years maybe.

Now Ive seen the highlights - I can comment a little more

FC did very well, pity he got a slight injury otherwise today's game should have been good enough to give him a full half or more to see what he can really do

Too right - Fletcher is at his peak, yes the miss was phenomenally shocking, but his shot which got tipped onto the bar kind of made amends, he also had a couple of decent crosses from out wide, not brilliant by any means but possibly worth hanging on to (considering the position of CR and Nani, there is really on OH that can play the wing position without risking completely untested players)

Tevez did very well indeed, brilliant player and hopefully his full purchase will go through very soon. He deserved a penalty (unfortunately he also deserved being sent off - he is getting a little like Rooney in that respect, he needs to calm down a little)

+1 about VdS - he had nothing to do really until the penalties apart from a few goal kicks. Pompey penalties would make a great comedy sketch (did Crouch even take one, or was he taken off?)

Nani can be magical - but most of the time he is shocking and his temper is a little questionable also, some fouls he gives away are just stupid

good run out for the boys but nothing else really - even winning doesnt really mean jack ****

We may need him to as well, iam expecting the FA to hand out a 3 match ban for Tevez :/

Absolutely right too - Tevez would have no defence, really stupid too imo, yes he was fouled (and really obviously) but that doesnt mean Tevez should grab/squeeze the guy's throat either - even if it was momentary
