I don't get how you can game on 2 monitors anyways, I tried it with 2 24" dell's and while it looks nice, it plays horrible. Try playing a game like UT3, COD or CSS, and you will find you die a hell of a lot more as the crosshair is split between monitors and you see one part of the enemy on one side, and one on the other side, horrible. Just get one big 30" if you need more screen space i say
i agree..
using 2 monitors split screen for gaming would make it difficult to game. if you can afford 2 22"+ monitors why not just of bought one big monitor (30"+)

some people do over split screens here thoughyou guys aren't serious? of course people don't game over split screens. (there are a few exceptions like flight sims etc). but playing an FPS? don't be silly....
there is more to life than gaming. shocking but true.......![]()
..

does it crash in single monitor mode?that isn't the issue at all. quite often the crash will happen when the card is doing nothing on the windows desktop - the time when people want their 2nd screen enabled.....

Completely agree, however i disabled Aero as has been suggested and it has not happened since, it happened quite quickly in the Space Siege demo so will now run through that again to see if the crash still happens, it did not in a 3 hour CoD4 session yesterday though, and that is the most important for me.I have a HD 4870 and am using vista 64 and I have had no problems ...
Not!
Anyone who is having no problems is not using dual screens.
It is not hardware conflicts, it is buggy drivers.
No problems with 8800gts using dual screens.
The 8.7 drivers for me cause blue screens, system crashes and can cause both screens to go into standby mode (this also happened on win xp).
ATI sort it out!

Really close to doing this myself but i don't want to spend a dime more than i already have, that was the whole point in getting the 4870, it's affordable, no point in paying the postage to return it and then paying for a 280, which would be the replacement if i did it. I really do not feel good about AMD right now, extremely disappointed.Had enough of this crap.
I'm sending the 4870 back and getting a GTX 260. And being as the 8.8 BETA drivers are not helping it's not looking good for there final release, and i'm not waiting months for ATI to fix this, like has happened in the past with another ATI card i had.
Just been looking at overclocking results and a lot of the 260's are getting 700+ MHz core speeds, at that speed it will be faster than the default 4870, atleast equal to my 4870 @ 820MHz core, and have more memory, all for the same price. And WITH WORKING DRIVERS.
lol @ all the cards i've had in the past few months... 9800GX2, GTX 280, 4870, now GTX 260.. and soon 4870X2 - but that will be going straight back if i have the same problem with that card and the drivers!

Mass Effect runs hella slow on one 4870 in x64

Loadsamoney's quiet on the subject... oh wait he's just in the NVidia physx thread having another cheap shot at NVidia.
From what I've been told this problem shouldn't exist and you shouldn't worry because ATI release new drivers all the time.![]()

No.....Loadsamoney never says problems shouldn't exist ...who told you problems shouldn't exist???? He states that ati endeavour to sort their problems on a monthly basis and no-one in their real mind would say that about ati..who has? Links please! And...if you did find that info from someone you bothered to pick up on it..geez
Al least they 'endeavour' to each month![]()
