I've just watched the diving.

What a joke!!!

The british just did a difficult dive, absolutely perfectly. 9.

The chinese do a dive. Just a dive. No spin, rotation, just head first. It could have only be simpler if they went in feet first. The did it out of time, they hit the water at different times, they came out of the tuck differently. 10.

What a load of carp.

Internet ranter in 'misdirected righteous indignation about subject he knows nothing about' SHOCKER!!!!!

My friend from School is diving for GB on friday. Rebecca Gallantree, Womens 3m Springboard. I've seen her practice before and she's amazing, but then, i've never watched World Champions dive before so what would i know :/

What I dont get it how a simple dive can be of equal 'difficulty' as one with a spin and twist. And if it is scored equally, why do the more difficult one.

Seems like the Chinese have got the tactics right.

Oh and forgive me for not knowing precisely the scoring rules for synchronised diving. I think I'd be a little embarassed if I did.

To be honest, if you didn't know the rules, why comment on them? It would be like me commenting on something being offside in football when frankly I don't have a clue about it.

Sorry RDM, but Bug One has a valid point, that comment seems completely of place. Its an opinion, and he is perfectly valid to voice it. Why should you do a more complex one if a simople one is just the same.

Difficulty is determined by the number and type of elements in the dive. It is not some random number picked out of the air.

As for the scoring - that's determined by how well the dive is executed and synchronised, and how good the entry into the water is. It is very much subjective, but to help prevent bias they always have more judges than they need and 'lose' best/worst scores.

As for the question - it's a balance. The judged mark is multiplied by the difficulty, so you can do lower difficulty well, or higher difficulty not quite so well, and still end up with the same points. What you don't want to do is make the difficulty so high that you make a complete hash of it and get spanked by the judges, or make the difficulty so low that even perfect 10s wouldn't do you any good.

The British diving just wasn't good enough, particularly on the entry into the water, which the Chinese seemed to nail every time.

Get stuffed.

I have a perfectly justified right to comment on anything I like. I dont need to be a synchro diving expert to be able to observe, listen and then have an opinion that I can voice.

I'm perfectly happy for someone to explain why the scoring is as it is and why I am incorrect, as previous posters have instead of give a sarcastic, completely worthless post such as yours and penski's.

He does have a valid right to voice his opinion, much like anyone else has a valid right to say "You don't really have a clue as to what you are talking about." Personally I would expect a bit of ridicule if I meandered over to sports and started giving my opinion on the relative merits of various strikers when I in fact have no clue about football.

Get stuffed.

With pleasure. :D

Of course not, however don't be suprised when people that do know what they are talking about tell you that you don't know what you are talking about. You are free to express what ever opinion you like it just tends to be a bit wiser to do it about subjects you have a clue on. See the above mentioned football comment.

I'm not. But you're just being a pedantic arse.

As if you know anything about olympic diving scoring systems bar what you've heard from the commentry. :p

Actually, I did see that too.

The British girl touched the other bar with her feet.

The Chinese girl fell off completely.

Who scored highest. Take a guess.

But it is understandable why. The chinese girl was going for a higher scoring routine and was then marked down for falling, her overal score was still above Beths.
Though tbh, beth should have been awarded extra points for being able to carry on her routine the way she did, she could have gone completely to pot at that point!
