There's a name to the Nehalem face...

I think it's i786 as opposed to the original pentium pro's i686. Y'know, for the i7 part. It'd make sense since the shift to QPI from the old FSB is quite a big change (that and Netburst was P68, not i786. >>).

hurrah - first post to have no sarcastic comments or silly logo alterations :p

I reckon you just keep it simple...

Except that Phenom means "outstanding or unusual thing"

Phenom doesnt mean anything, but Phenomenal does indeed mean extraordinary / remarkable. I rather think AMD's ego was rather large at the time, considering the Phenom doesnt really do anything that Core Duo cant already do. Its not a bad chip, but it certainly isnt extraordinary.

Big question is...worth waiting for?

I've been on the edge of ordering for a few days, but every time I get told to wait for the new chip. Will it make that much difference to a light/medium gamer like me?

Errr check the Oxford English dictionary before posting please ;)

Phenom (noun) Slang: A shortened version of Phenomenal. Entered dictionary prior to 2000.

Hence valid to use the name Phenom. As to whether it deserves that name is another story ;)
