OCUK MX5 register

They are also non-interference engines, so don't panic if the cambelt hasn't been changed on time. If it snaps there shouldn't be any damage except being stranded. At some point this changed though, I *think* it's when they brought out the VVT engines? Not entirely sure on this but the mk1 is definitely non-interference.

Yep all Mk2 engines are non-interference, Mk2.5 VVT 1.8 isn't not sure about the 1.6, i don't think that was VVT, so anything 2001 onwards with the new shape front bumper.

Would love a Mazdaspeed Mk2.5, fantastic looking car :)

When i was looking, about 500 on a Mk2 costing around £6500, biggest thing hitting the market at the moment is the credit crunch so if you've got money to burn its a good time to buy those non essential things in life.

lol, well there's the funny thing - I have cash sat in the bank but my fixed term mortgage is up in December.

On one hand I'm thinking time to buy myself a toy after a year or so in the wilderness, on the other perhaps I should hold onto cash in case my house has been de-valued to £6.28.

We could always eat the MX5 if things got really bad I suppose? :D

£6.28 is enough for fish & chips twice, what you worried about :p

I'd hold off temping as it may be, towards the end of the years loads of peoples situations will be miles worse and you will be on the lookout / signing up for a new rate in November anyways :)

ay, thats what my sensible side is saying too.... wait for a bargain in the run up to christmas, plus more time to save...

In need of a guinea pig I talked my brother into buying a 97 1.8 dakar, had a drive of it myself - cracking motor.

Not entirely sure it's the right car for me though. Great car and a delight to drive but it didn't set my pants on fire.

Yes, but then as I'd prefer a more modern example - the total spend is inching towards S2000 money, and vtec gives me the horn.

Tricky tricky tricky.

...to rock a rhyme that's right on time.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I was at a track day at Donington the other week and got chatting with Willie Green. He has one of these that he spent £2.5K buying and then another £2K tweaking it for the track, with cage, pads and a few suspension mods and he uses it for educating drivers. VERY tempted to get one of these as I also have a friend who races one in the MX5 championship and I think with some engine tweaking it could be some real cheap fun that I wouldn't be worried about bending.
