Olympic Scoring Farce

there would be some indication of time i would think. maybe a buzz or whistle. then say 3 seconds after that, start?

One thing I'e always wondered:

How do the synchronized divers both know when to start diving when they're not looking at eachother?

They have microphones up there now. You can hear what they say. One guy say 'ready' then the other one said 3 2 1 go.

Or at least that was what the americans did.

dont really like the swimming women..... look like men :/ a bit freakish big massive shoulders...

edit: i have zero faith that a lot of those new swim records are clean.....

I'm glad I'm not the only person who thinks the boxing scoring has been fairly suspect.
Dont tell me. The Chinese won?

Did you see the rowing? :p

Seriously, are transexuals allowed? Because that 2nd Chinese .... person. It was a man, man.

They weren't Chinese, surprisingly. I can't remember the nationalities, but I think they were both western. The one fighter just wasn't being awarded points for clear punches but when the other guy did a similar punch, he'd get points. It's the inconstancy of it all that bothers me.

To be honest, if you didn't know the rules, why comment on them? It would be like me commenting on something being offside in football when frankly I don't have a clue about it.

You sound ideally qualified to compose the next interation of the offside rule tbh.

The problem with all of these events are the scoring systems are geared towards the people involved with them every day.
They don't take into account the people watching at home have no idea how everything works, and therefore get frustrated by seeing someone look better (cleaner performance) get lower marks than someone looking worse (falling/out of sync), just because they opted for a more difficult dive.

Maybe they should say everyone has to do exactly the same things, and then just judge by how well each of those things are done.
Yes it doesn't promote individual talents for making things up, but it makes it easier for people at home to understand.

Am I right in saying the boxing is judged by having more than one judge pressing a button at once to give a boxer a point for doing something?

I think its 2 of 3 or 3 of 4 need to press a button within a certain time for a point to be registered.

Very true, I think this applies to models on the catwalk and on tv shows like "Blah blah's next top model" the judges and audiences at the shows have different criteria to people watching on tv, I mean some of them are mingers to the point you could easily see a dozen birds up town on an average night out that are better looking and better dressed but yet the judges are in raptures over them.............funny old world.............Watched end of recent UK's next top model and the lass who won was minging compared to one that came 2nd

Being a model is not about being attractive. Mostly, and especially for fashion models, it is about having a symmetrical face and body.

Yeh, seem to remember the winner had spots in same place on both sides of her face whereas the lass who came 2nd only had one spot anywhere, bet she wishes she sprouted a zit on the other the night before ;)

2nd wasn't a touch on 3rd place. The gorgeous sexy Stafanie Wilson.

How can being 'too sexy' be a reason to be eliminated. Fools!

I've just watched the diving.

What a joke!!!

The british just did a difficult dive, absolutely perfectly. 9.

The chinese do a dive. Just a dive. No spin, rotation, just head first. It could have only be simpler if they went in feet first. The did it out of time, they hit the water at different times, they came out of the tuck differently. 10.

What a load of carp.
I'm watching the diving highlights now and the Chinese are in a different league compared to the British pair.
