Do we all agree that Babylon 5 beats Star Trek?

DS9 is still top for me
B5 is also very good

i hate comparing them cause i love them both so much so i just enjoy both and dont worry myself with which is better

after that it goes

Voyager
TNG
BSG

with the new BSG the first 2 seasons was very good but its gone done hill so fast :(

Firefly > Babylon 5 > Star Trek

I need to see more than the first 5 episodes of BSG as they sucked major wang but I have been told they start to shake corporal r33ts hand in later ep's.

Once i got past the first handful of episodes of bsg i liked it, but I disliked season 2 immensely, and so havent watched season 3, which im told is good again ;)

They left a lot of unresolved issues in Babylon 5 creating the impression ther would be more episodes/films later which have never really transpired to address them :(

I liked the fact that B5 actually had a long storyline (and a redheaded telepath). I might have to buy up and watch the entire series..

It's just a shame that the B5 team had to practically fight for every penny to keep the series running*, whilst Star Trek managed to waste so much on Voyager and Enterprise.
I think i've said it before, but the only star trek to come close to B5 is the one that most closely mirrored it, and then only once they actually developed an ongoing story (rather than alien creature takes over secondary character/holds main character hostage/gets jiggy with junior character episode #137).
I would probably agree with all that, although I still feel star trek next gen is the best star trek.

*Wasn't it very nearly cancelled at least 3 times, including them not knowing if they were going to be able to do the planned season 5 until after season 4 had wrapped up (iirc they ended up tying up a number of plot points early, resulting in them being rushed into a couple of episodes instead of over a series).
Yep, unfortunately they rushed the 5 series and some of the 4th iirc, bit of a shame.

They also brought out a few films and an extra series (crusade) which I feel could have had a similar long life to b5 (it was starting to get good and then they stopped it :() but networks killed it as they're only after the quick buck.

I can't say b5 is better than star trek as they take a different approach, b5 is big story with mini stories inside it, while generally speaking (except ds9) star trek is more of an episode per story approach.
However I have bought the b5 box set, something I haven't done with star trek although that could be due to their extortionately high price tags, no way is a star trek series worth over 200 quid!!
The recent comeback story (the lost tales) isn't half bad even though all the old cg models had been lost, annoyingly the box set for b5 + lost tales is actually cheaper than buying the box set which I bought via the rainforest place :(

Now here's a detour, I consider farscape superior to star trek in many ways too and I think the andromeda ascendant is damn better looking ship than the enterprise (plus theres lexa doig and laura bertram - romy/romi and trance) :) The white star rules though :D

Try it with star trek and b5 spelt correctly :)
Star trek - 43 500 000
babylon 5 - 5 660 000

:D

Would place Firefly above that but so so short

Firefly is the most overrated show ever :p .
Thats not to say it was bad, just not special.
Mal & Jayne were truly great characters.
But Simon was just wooden and dull, Shepherd clichéd, Wash insipid and Kaylee annoying.
Of the episodes, Jaynestown and Ariel were excellent, the rest a mixture of forgettable and bad.
Oh and the Chinese swearing got old very quickly.
Still, had they shown Spike sitting in a bar drinking (as apparently was considered) it would have been very cool :D

Re: St/B5: Both had their moments, although Babylon 5's format for me made it more special.
However, some of the dialog and individual episodes (TKO?) were probably of a lower standard than anything ST has ever done :)

I really tried to get into Babylon5, but it just seemed so totally amateurish that after about 8 episodes of series one (I bought the first two series on DVD) I put them back in the box. I found the sets awful and the acting to be abysmal. It looks to me like the actors are just a bunch of kids pretending to be people on a spacestation, while in ST they actually feel like actors in a role - it seems more realistic. Star Trek, all of them, just seem so much more polished.

Loved DS9, especially when they were working to the Dominion story-line, now I'm working through Voyager - got all seven series sitting here, just going through them slowly, currently in series 3. After that, I dunno.... :D

I see your TKO and raise you 'A Late Delivery from Avalon' The king Arthur thing from season 3 :D

It took me a few episodes to get into B5, but once you look past the dodgy cgi, it's immense. The story was just brilliant, apart from a few not so good episodes. I have to say that I shed a little tear at the final episode though when you see what happens :(
