Ok, take this as a 2-parter really.

I want to know

1 - Whats the most powerful WIFI Adapter that I could use in my Laptop

2 - Whats the best / most powerful without going silly with cash?

Im asking this for a couple of reasons... I have my Desktop stuff connected with Ethernet, and I have wireless setup purely for the LapTop.

Im using a Linksys adapter in there at the mo, and it works sort of acceptably enough, but its useless any further than about 20 feet away, no good upstairs or the garden kind of thing.

Now, I have a massive attic and I have converted that into my Computer & LAN room and thats usually Ethernet, but one PC I threw in a really cheap and nasty SiteCom Wireless adapter into it, just to try toget it to play, and it did so, with a 100% signal.

I went and grabbed the laptop again, took it and placed it next to the Desktop and I got 12%-14% signal.

I then set about and tried a number of different wireless adapters on the LapTop, and I got no better than 28% and that was with an old Actiontec ( USB ) and I tried this on the Desktop and that still gave me the same 28%, showing.

Now, the Router Im using is a Linksys WAG364G v2 with some weird Firmware ( To cure the shabby Wireless - clearly its worked well ) and for the Deskop to pick up a 100% signal through 3 floors ( One a very well insulated one ) must be tellign me that the Wireless adapters that I am using in the LapTop are simply not good enough, especially when the PCI Card I used is only a £3.99 job!

I have since gone through all my PCI Wireless adapters, Belkin, Adonics, DLink, Linksys, and this SiteCom and they all give a 100% signal.

So, back to the 2 questions I suppose?

Any one know what to go for?

Yes, thats true, and my LapTop is one that is incapable of using an internal adapter, which is a bloody annoyance.

Ok, the Cisco is over a ton and the orinoco is £50

So, the orinoco it is then. LOL

Many thanks... I will go for it and let you know the score yeah?

Ah, I seem to have lost a post here?

Anyway, just to let you know, that things went well.

Dont know where £50 came from, but I paid £70 for mine.

I would like to say that I was annoyed, but the thing is amazing and I am actually quite happy to have bought it... Yes, its a bit of a hike just to get my Laptop talking a bit further than the £3.50 job that I have used, but this thing works half way down the road!!!!

I can see 2 wireless networks ( My own being one of them ) from my kitchen, the geezer next door I assume is the other one, but all weekend, I have been seeing 7, 8, 9, and at one time, I saw 17 !!!! WEEEE!!!!

Sadly however, I can always see at least 2 that are unsecure, but their loss, someone elses gain.

Anyway, the biggest test I gave it yesterday... No, Friday... Its monday now isnt it? no, Saturday then, was to see if the Leptop could get onto the internet at the community center for the kids to have web access ( I run the KidzClub there you see ) and from there I can see 4 networks... So, I am asking around and I will see if they will let us piggy-back so the kids can do stuff

Shame it cannot see my own, but thats would be just too much to ask.

All in all, £70 might seem a bit much, but this thing is great... Or at least it is compared to the Linksys I was using.
