What's a good salary

I earn just over 20k, I live fine.
.

Man if I earned 20k and lived with the folks I'd be rich...

Between age 20 and 25 I'd say £20k-£40k is good, any above that is rather successful.

40k and between 20-25 is rather more than good. I wonder, statistically, how many 20-25 years olds earn in that braod range and what the average is for that age group?

In 2005/06 the mean salary for someone aged 20-24 was £13,400 and the median was £12,200.

Also, £40K would put you almost in the top 10% of earners regardless of age.

Whilst that does initially seem quite shocking, you have to remind yourself OCUK certainly not does represent the UK population. Many people do not even have a computer at home.

How many, exactly?

I may not be representative of the average person, but everyone I know has a computer at home. Everyone. Footy mates, pub mates, work mates, family members, family friends...

Oh sorry, I wasn't basing mine on averages. I was working on what I think and aspire towards, with a salary based on a young professional working in business or IT in one of the five largest cities in the UK. :)

I earn 32-35k at the moment, I live with my parents in London. I'm 23 and still here because I can't afford to move out (to anywhere half decent and livable).

I'd say 40-45k would be satisfactory for the south east for someone in their twenties.

Lucky boy, you sir are minted. Wish my parents lived in London :(

If you want cheap council tax (£70pm) come to wandsworth borough and down to see the tooting and balham massive :D

Might go down the tram shed this week to drink away some more money.

When I graduated I was offered a couple of jobs at well above average salaries, but I went for the other option of a very good graduate scheme, with exceptional training, starting slightly lower (but still well above average), but with fixed pay increases of around 10% for 3 years, after which your pay jumps up again. It's all about the overall package and what you value most, I valued the great training over a few extra K a year, it'll pay off in the long run.

Company also offers a very good pension or the alternative is a 3 year home buyers plan where you put in 8% of your salary and the company puts in 8%, but it can only be used to buy a house obviously.

With a large percentage of people here working in oil there aren't many on under 30k a year (well obviously there will be but not in the social circles I'm in, living in a predominantly commuter town)

Where I live is relatively cheap though compared to London etc, although prices are inflated compared to other areas of Scotland due to Aberdeens oil capital title.

p.s. I'm 23

I thought so but didn't have time to verify it as I am at work. Most 20-25 years olds I know earn peanuts...

The only people I know who don't have a computer is my step-sons girfirend and family. The norm is for people to have a computer or laptop.

Some people have ludicrously high expectations... £25k is plenty to get a room in, live, and enjoy, London. That's what I started on at 24 years of age (also when I first moved out) and still made savings every month.

I live in the city centre of manchester in a two floor, two bed flat with one other person, I earn £17,000 and put £200 a month into my savings account. I take on average 2 holidays a year and go out once or twice a week.

No idea for UK figures, but a number of 'working class' folk from a gym I used to frequent did not own PCs and could not see the need for them. Based on that, I think its fair to say at least 5% of homes do not have a PC.

My point was that very few people of that social class are likely to post on a computer modding forum.
