Catalalyst 8.8 beta's leaked

Just tried these 400mb 8.8 beta's (8.54).

They seem to have screwed my system, any 3D app takes minutes to load before freezing.. Ive uninstaled them, cleaned everything with driver cleaner pro and sweeper and put my trusty hotfix's back on but still the same.

I'd wait for officials

*edit* driver clean & sweep in safe mode has got me back to normal.

the 8.8 beta's (8.54) works ok on vista 32bit but on vista 64bit it seems slower..

crysis in vista32 at 1680x1050 , high settings/dx9, it gets 34fps but in vista64 at 1680x1050 , high settings/dx9/64bit, it gets 27fps...

tbh 34fps seems low ?

gpu was clocked to 675mhz

Slideshow at 1680x1050 with AA?.

certainly not a slideshow. it's almost playable but isn't quite there. there are some nasty drops in framerate every now and then....... and i find even 2xAA @ 1680x1050 isn't smooth enough for my liking. so i'm now playing at 1280x800 with 4xAA and it runs/look sweet. :)

I hear you :). Same as me in Grid @ 1920x1200 with 4xAA. Although my issue is slightly less than yours, I know what you mean. I dropped to 1600x1200 for that silky smooth feeling with not even the tiniest of bit of slowdown.

Hopefully after the X2 is released, the drivers that will show up might have the fixes for various people with gaming, dual screens etc. I think with the X2 that ATI/AMD are spending a lot of time in trying to perfect the drivers and that's maybe why certain fixes haven't been addressed so far. This is just my own speculation and I know the card is brand new and still maturing so it could just be that also. With the X2 due out soon as well as the August driver, it won't be long to find out :).

Good thing is that you can still game happily, just not at the resolution you desire. Happy gaming and I hope it gets sorted out soon for higher res gaming.

There is definatly some speed in these drivers, ive seen some 20-40% increases in my framerates with my crossfire, i guess these are deffo going to be for the 4870x2.

There are a few problems with them atm, but i think the officials will be good. :)

Cool, they are going for it with the driver release aimed at the X2 but will also give a lot more to Crossfire by the way this is sounding. If they can improve Crossfire results as well as give the X2 4870 a driver to be proud off on it's launch then it will be another impressive launch from ATI (AMD).

If they have had time to address some of the issues that people have been having (dual screens, some games etc,) then that is impressive.

Ati still haven't released a driver for the 4850 / 4870 that Vsync works on quite rubbish of them really.

They have released one official driver! Mister one chance get it right first timer
Some of you are extremely impatient.

i agree with this.

everybody knows when new cards are released the current drivers are not that good for the new cardss.

just wait and be patient...

I dont really think its unreasonable for people to want vsync in a release, even if it is a first, its one of the most crucial things in playing games for a lot of people. Fortunately the rivatuner fix does the job, but its not idea.

You shouldnt have to be patient when you pay nearly £200 for something.
