4870x2 at ocuk

So excluding the price is this any better than the 280 ( and I mean a lot better)

It blows the 280 away...

What market forces, OcUK gets the cards first as they have a huge customer base, if only 1 store gets them first of course they can charge a premium as there are no market forces.
OCUK can sell them at this price cos people will buy them, why do you think house prices are coming down, its supply and demand. Lots of houses for sale with very little demand.
If not one person bought a single X2 for this price then how long do you think OCUK would maintain that price?

Yeah just read the article and yes it is very impresive playing Cod 4 but the rest of the games tested it wasn't a great deal better. I like the fact its got directX 10.1 where as nvidia thought this didn't matter. But Nvidia has implemented physics into its cards now. When is ATI going to get Havoc up and running or do you think theres no need for it?

The 4870X2 performance in CoD4 is not representative of what it does all the way across the board though? Isn't it the game that the 4870 just eats up?

Edit: Above poster beat me to it.

True but it is a monster card in terms of performance (Heat and sound too =P)regardless of what people on here say. Though that price is cringeworthy and the 280 would get my vote over the X2 atm.

If Havok flops then ATI have a fallback which is free use of implementation for PhysX because nvidia has been nice enough to giv them this option so ATI have the benefit of 2 physics technologies at their disposal.

Err it would have been more helpful if you'd stated that it blows the 280 away in that particular title.

In all the other games tested in that review the 280 holds up pretty well against the x2 and actually beats it in Crysis.

The x2 is an awesome card but so is the 280 at current prices.

In the majority of games the 280 is kicked in the nuts, and were talking about the max rez here as that is what these cards are indented for, check out the screens below, 280 is a good card, but its just got annihilated at max rez.

I just ordered a 4870 512mb + AC S1 Rev 2 this will tide me over for now.

And yes I do need 125fps+ constant. Not big fps gamers are you? Believe it or not you can jump further with 125fps in COD4 and anything below 100 feels laggy.

If you think about the price of the Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 2048MB being 375 pounds, thats double plus 10 pounds extra over the Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB so your basically getting two cards in one for 10 pounds extra which is worth it because it costs a fair bit for the technology to make it aswell, so i think its actually fairly reasonable might buy one ina sec :D

Blatantly selective use of benchmarks by RavenXXX2.
