Anyone waiting for one of these babies?
I would like to see how it fairs against the GTX280 single card against single card. I think it will outpoint the GTX280 and is priced a bit cheaper as well.

Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 2048MB = £387.74 inc VAT

Which is a dual version of this:

Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4870 1024MB = £234.99 inc VAT

So thats a saving of 81 pounds going for a X2 rather than crossfire cards.
And if you compair the X2 to:

Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4870 PCS Extreme 512MB = £182.11 inc VAT

Your paying 25 pounds more for a X2 over two 512mb cards but your getting a whole 1024mb extra

so why wait for a 1gb 4870x2?

Depends if you want to only drop £200 + notes on a vid card.
I myself wont be paying £300+ for a vid card in this space time continuum.

Ok let me put it this way which 4870 would you get out of these two:

powercolour 4870 1GB: GPU @ 750MHz
- 1024MB GDDR5 Memory @ 3600MHzor

the powercolour 4870 extreme :GPU @ 800MHz
: 512MB GDDR5 Memory @ 3800MHz

The 512Mb extreme is £182 but a £170 reference card will hit 790/4000 anyway, however the 1Gb for £234 on preorder you may as well get the GTX280 for £252, def worth the extra £18 in my opinion

Really dont expect the 4870 1Gb to be worth it unless you can pick one up for circa £200-£210

well that leads me back to where all this began before ATI woke up lol.
so it would be better to buy the gtx280 over the 4970 extreme and the 1gb?

I've seen pre-order prices as low as £195 for the Club3D and £205 for the Powercolor.

I would say NO, the gtx280 ISNT better if your mobo is capable of Xfire in the future. I'm waiting for the 1gb 4870 just to see if it is worth buying in any possible situation. If not, i'm gonna get a standard 4870, witha view to buying another in the future when they are much cheaper.

same boat as me really except my motherboard is a sli board but i will not be runing sli.

I haven't seen my 512mb 4870 run into RAM problems so far at 1920 x 1200. It would be interesting to see the benchmarks once the 1gb version is out.
