17" alloys on a Mk1 Focus

A friend of mine has just bought a Focus 1.6 Zetec and is wanting to shove some new alloys on there as the standard Ford set are rather tatty and make the car look a bit scruffy. He's thinking of these, which for my money look a lot like the MP3 alloys and possibly even a little nicer. Still, it's all down to personal taste I guess and plenty will dislike them.

So, a few questions if I may.

Firstly, are BSA a reputable brand? I know naff-all about cars so the mere fact I haven't heard of them before means nothing. At least I think I haven't - the name does ring a bell but I can fathom why.

Secondly, what sort of profile tyres are we looking at here? 40 or 45? Or is that more down to personal taste and/or individual tyre fitment?

Lastly, will the Focus need a touch of lowering to stop it looking like it's on stilts and if so, what the most cost effective yet sensible way of doing this. Are lowering springs the way to go, and if so which particular brand/model?

a. no idea sorry :)
b. I would go for 40
c. Eibach Springs.

The wheels look fine to me, resemble the MP3 wheels a lot as you say. I would rather get a set of ST170 wheels off ebay and get them refurbed if needed.

They will look truely chavtastic. No.
Well it's his car so he can go for what he likes. They remind me of the MP3 Focus SE, which admittedly I do prefer.

And while these aren't exactly as smooth, and this is an awful 'chop, they're what he likes and I've got to admit they do look the part:

Why 40 and why Eibach? Sorry if that's a dumb question!

He doesn't like the St170 wheels for some reason. Can't say I'm really smitten myself, but they do suit the car down to the ground.

I don't like them, talking 45 profile. 40 If you want it to sit a bit lower, but 45 will be fine.

Eibach springs on a budget, wouldn't even consider anything else.

quite nice on a silver focus tbh, much much better looking that most of the crap i see these days.

i dropped mine 40 on eibach springs. made the ride hard but acceptable.

Sorry, when I say cost effective in the OP I didn't mean cheapest as possible. He realises money will need to be spent but doesn't really want to buy a new suspension set-up.

So Eibach are good budget springs? What's the general consensus with these things anyway? I tried searching for the Focus thread but it appears to have been pruned. Either that or my searching is failing hard.

Tell your friend to get multispokes like the st170.

those wheels look like the audi rs wheels.

Here's an example :) .

ffoc or focusowners will have loads of information :]
Good point, well made. I'd forgotten about them

I'm sure you think they are lovely but to me they look terrible. Probably about as much as you think the BSA ones do!

I'm really taken with the MP3 alloys but he just wants something a little bit different. Personally I think the flatness and the thickness of the spokes really suits the lines of the Focus.

Horses for courses though, eh?

Eibach are great springs. About £140 for the set.

VX220s wouldn't have them as standard if they were crap.

Yeah, each to their own and all hah!

Best bet would be to get on ffoc or focusowners and check out the fourcourts and showrooms on their, plenty of examples to be found there :) .

They look crap imo as well. Only good alloys I've seen on those cars are the ST170 ones.

Marvellous.

Well I wouldn't even know if they had them in the first place, so I'll take your word on that one.

Yeah, each to their own and all hah!
I notice you've got the ST170 spots on yours? And I'm guessing possibly the whole front end is ST170-esque? T'is nice.

Thanks :) , just the fogs and lower grill. If you do some searching on the web, you can get the eibach springs for £100.
